đź’Ľ Chapter 2: The Proposal

“Sit down, Ethan.” Her tone was calm, but it wasn’t a request — it was a command. The irony wasn’t lost on him. Years ago, she used to tremble in his office, clutching her resignation letter while he decided her fate. Now, she was the one dictating the rules. Ethan didn’t move. “What game are you playing, Amara?” She walked closer, the click of her heels echoing in the silence of the glass-walled office. Her perfume — jasmine with a hint of something darker — hit him like a memory. “You call it a game,” she said, sliding a folder across his desk, “I call it justice.” He glanced down. The documents bore the logo of Velasco International Holdings — her company, his newest rival. Inside were acquisition papers. His company’s shares. His board members’ signatures. And her name — as the new majority shareholder. Ethan’s throat tightened. “You bought my company’s debt?” Amara smiled faintly. “No. I bought your empire.” For a moment, silence filled the room. Ethan clenched his fists, rage and disbelief warring inside him. “You think you can destroy me like this?” “Oh no,” she said softly, leaning closer across his desk, “destroying you would be too easy.” Their eyes locked — a silent battlefield of memories, pain, and unspoken desire. “What do you want, Amara?” he asked, voice low. She paused, her expression unreadable. “A partnership.” He blinked. “You expect me to believe that?” “I don’t expect you to believe anything,” she said. “But you need me. Your investors are pulling out, your company’s stock is crashing, and the man who once ruled this city is one scandal away from ruin.” She leaned in, her voice turning cold. “And I can save you — for a price.” Ethan stared at her, every instinct screaming not to trust her. But deep down, he knew she was right. He was losing everything. “What’s your price?” he finally asked. Her gaze softened, just for a second — enough to remind him of the girl he once loved. But the warmth vanished as quickly as it came. “Simple,” she said. “You’ll work under me.” The words cut through the air like a blade. Ethan froze, his pride burning, his jaw tightening. “You’re out of your mind.” Amara stepped back, calm and composed. “Then watch your empire burn, Ethan.” She turned toward the door, pausing only once to glance back. “Just remember,” she whispered, “you taught me how to be ruthless.” And with that, she walked away — leaving him alone in the office that suddenly felt like a cage. For the first time in years, Ethan Alcaraz realized what fear really felt like. Because Amara Velasco wasn’t just back for revenge. She was back to take everything he’d ever loved — including his heart.
