Chapter 19 - Spiking Jealousy

1535 Words
A couple of hours had passed by since the Reaper’s arrival at Romano Manor and by then everyone inside had made themselves quite comfortable as they settled in and lounged about for the remainder of the morning. Some got well needed sleep. Others stayed up playing at the billiards table. And of course, Dante got straight to work identifying who was responsible for tracking his jet from New York. It was clear that someone wanted to know their location and he had a pretty good clue of who that person was... Vincenzo Moroni. After Alexa was assisted by Lanzo to escape the deranged Don who had kidnapped her, there was no doubt in Dante’s mind that Moroni was the one now hunting them. Which meant that they may not be as safe here in Toronto as he had initially believed. With this in mind, he intended on focusing for now on the reason he had brought Alexa here to Canada in the first place. Fully aware that he was expected to attend a meeting within the next couple of hours halfway across the city, Dante quickly had himself a shower and dressed for the part he would need to play at this particular meeting. First impressions would play a vital part in how everything went from here on out and he intended on showing his host just how powerful he truly was. Now donning a stylish black Armani three-piece suit with a striking silver tie tucked neatly into his matching black vest, Dante Romano looked and smelled like the dominant powerhouse billionaire that he was. As Alexa stepped into their shared bedroom, she was suddenly overwhelmed by the masculine scent of her lover’s cologne as it filled her nostrils, urging her to breathe it in and her panties to dampen with a sudden wave of lust. This was his scent. The scent of the Reaper himself. Before she got the chance to reach the incredibly oversized ensuite in an attempt to speak with him, the Don suddenly stepped out from the open doorway and froze upon spotting her waiting for him. And as her eyes caught sight of this delectable specimen of a man standing there in all his power and glory, dressed to kill and quite literally, she furrowed her brows in obvious confusion. “Bella…” He spoke softly, as if he were somewhat surprised by her appearance in that moment. “I thought you were with Alessandro.” “I was, but he’s fed and gone down for another nap.” Alexa explained, crossing both of her arms over her chest and eyeing him suspiciously as her head tilted off to the side. “And where are you off to dressed like that?” Tearing his gaze from her, Dante continued to gather his things whilst speaking his replies to her questions and comments. He found his Rolex and fastened it to his wrist, then located his phone, keys and wallet. “Just a meeting I need to attend. Nothing too exciting, I can assure you.” He made sure to keep his response as vague as possible. That way he wasn’t quite lying to her, and alternatively wasn’t telling her the truth. But even with his vague replies, Alexa wondered why Dante was dressed up if he was only heading out to some boring old meeting. It just didn’t make any sense. “You look nice.” she complimented him. But Dante immediately caught onto the baited compliment and merely smiled back at her as he stopped right in front of her, bent down, closed his eyes and kissed her gently on the forehead. “I’ll return sometime around dinner.” He spoke to her, looking her dead in the eye and with a kind-hearted smile as he ran his fingers down the side of her face. Softly… Sensually… “Until then, the manor is yours. My men will keep an eye on you and our son, don’t worry. You’re perfectly safe here, amore mio…” With that, the Don gave her a playful wink before he stepped around her and continued towards the bedroom door, calling out over his shoulder one last remark. “Don’t wait up for me.” Stunned and confused, Alexa stood in place as she turned and watched him leave the room, closing the door softly behind him. And right away, her jealousy spiked. Countless questions began flooding her mind at the many possibilities of why he was heading out dressed so nicely. Alexa began to feel somewhat sickened as tears started to form in the corners of her eyes… Why would he dress to this extent for a mere meeting? Who was he aiming to impress, other than her? And why wasn’t he telling her anything useful? Any particular details about where he was going or what this meeting was about? If she was being honest, Dante was constantly keeping a lot from her, and she wanted to know why he felt the need to guard her from his world so much. With this terrible feeling now settled in at the pit of her stomach, Alexa knew that she needed to get her mind off Dante entirely. And she knew just the right person to speak to in order to accomplish that. - The journey towards the agreed upon meeting place felt like an eternity. But eventually, Dante’s limo had finally arrived at its intended destination. Castle Levine. An astonishing and expansive castle-like structure set off in the hills of the far countryside just outside of the city of Toronto. Sitting on over five-thousand acres of land, the castle itself stood at over six stories in height and had an incredibly long driveway leading from the outer gates of the estate, all the way up towards the castle’s entrance. Not only that, but the estate itself had many amenities, some of which included several swimming pools, a tennis court, stables, a barn and several warehouses. And the owner of this incredible residence was none other than Don Liam Levine, head of the largest Mafia Family in Canada and known throughout the world for his brands of deliciously home-made scotch and illicit weapons trade. Even with this being public knowledge, no one would dare touch him. Don Levine had the entire Canadian Police Force in his pocket, so to speak, and no one seemed to have the balls to go against him. No one in Canada, that is. However, Dante hadn’t come here to cause any waves. He didn’t intend on starting a war with another powerful Mafia Don. Not now… He had a far better idea in mind. Instead, he had purposely pre-organised this meeting with Don Levine, hoping for a far more positive outcome in the long run. One that he had hoped would come to fruition. As the limousine came to a complete stop, Dante glanced across from him where Nicola sat, he too dressed in one of his finest suits and dressed to impress their hosts. “You sure about this, capo?” Nicola queried, furrowing his brows one last time. “This could go either way.” “Just stick to the plan. And keep your eyes open at all times. You above all others knows how this sort of thing works. We stay sharp and we walk out of here alive.” Dante reminded him with a stern tone to his voice, right as the car door was opened by Luca who was dressed and posing as their driver for this trip. “Capo.” The corner of his mouth curved upwards as Luca spoke, meeting eyes with his Don. Though he quickly hid it from view as he stepped aside and waited for them to exit the limo. “You too, Luca. Keep your eyes open.” Dante spoke as he stepped out of the limousine and glanced around them. “I want to know we can get the hell outta here should anything go sideways.” “Got you covered, capo. Don’t worry.” Luca spoke with a wink as Nicola exited the vehicle after Dante. “Good luck.” With that, Luca closed the door and proceeded to make his way back to the driver’s seat as Dante and Nicola were then approached by several men wearing pristine suits who had come from the castle’s main entrance. There were five of them in total, and each of them looked incredibly smug. And upon a closer inspection, all five appeared to be fully armed. “They’re carrying.” Nicola whispered to his Don while standing in place. Dante spoke no reply to this. He didn’t need to. Of course, these men would be carrying. They were there to escort their newest guests up to see their boss. It made sense that they had guns on their persons. “Don Romano?” One of the well-built men questioned aloud with a nod of his head in their direction. “Don Levine has been expecting you. Please, come this way.” With that they began to lead Dante and Nicola in through the large archway entrance of the massive castle-like structure to meet with their capo, Don Liam Levine.
