Chapter 24 - A Terrible Confession

2639 Words
Vincenzo sat back, comfortably lounging upon one of the expensive looking cream-coloured sofas located within his luxurious penthouse hotel suite. He held his slimline phone in his right hand and was at that very moment scanning through the lengthy text message he had just received from one of his contacts living there in Toronto. And for once it was good news. Apparently, several of his local contacts living in the area had done some recent reconnaissance work for him. Not only that, but they had also managed to locate a rough estimated area of where the Romano Family Manor would be located for his oncoming plan of attack. According to several rumours floating around Canada, the manor was a spectacularly strong structure, long thought to be completely impenetrable. No doubt the reason why Dante would choose to keep his loved ones locked away in there during their time hiding out. He thought they would remain safe there under heavy guard. The poor fool. Having used his powerful sources to secretly infiltrate the Reaper’s ranks, posed as Canadian henchmen thought to be loyal to the Romano’s, Vincenzo now had eyes and ears inside the manor. Even from where he now lounged about in the hotel suite. And not only that, but the rival Don also had people willing to assist him whenever he did eventually choose to strike against Dante. These rats would help Vincenzo and his men get inside the manor undetected and also take out the enemy soldiers. With this in mind, Vincenzo wanted to ensure that when he did eventually strike, he did so with full force and skilful cunning. He wanted to be several steps ahead of the infamous Reaper. As he sat staring down at the text message, he used the pad of his thumb to swipe across the screen and bring up a live feed of one of the security cameras he had managed to hack into at Romano Manor. On his screen was a direct view of a large luxurious room with an indoor pool filling the majority of its space. And there, splashing about in the comforting water of the pool was his runaway wife, Alexa. Now donning her stunningly crimson bikini, the beautiful blonde was slowly stroking her way through the crystal blue water, one movement at a time and with such obvious grace. Fuck that woman was a looker! Vincenzo was finding it difficult controlling his own urges as he sat there alone with his phone held in his hand. The way that the water cascaded off her perfectly shaped body with each movement she made while gliding through the water, it was almost too much for the Don to handle. He could feel his blood beginning to heat up with sudden desire. His tongue momentarily darted out from his mouth, moistening his lips slowly, sensually as he watched her in silence. “Mmmm… una vera bellezza, se mai ne avessi vista una...” (Mmmm… a true beauty if I ever saw one…) He whispered hungrily to himself. “Forse ti terrò in giro dopo tutto, mio dolce.” (Perhaps I will keep you around after all, my sweet.) In that moment, he vowed that he would do whatever it took to get her back. He would use this woman, if not for his own obvious enjoyment as her husband by law, then to help break Dante’s spirit in the worst way possible. And the best way he could possibly do that would be to have a child with her. His moment of enjoyment was suddenly cut short as the door opened and several figures eagerly entered the room without announcement. “Don Moroni, may we request a moment of your time?” Domenico made his query respectfully as the Don began fumbling about with his phone, switching off the live feed and pocketing it out of either guilt or shame. “I suppose I have no choice. Now that you’ve all barged your way in here without first asking.” Vincenzo made his snide comment spitefully as he sat upright and turned his body in their direction. His eyes were narrowed with disappointment. “This had better be important.” He watched with irritation as his men came marching up to stand before him. It appeared that they had something important to announce. “My apologies for the intrusion, capo.” Domenico spoke with a bow of his head and a solemn expression for the mistake. “I thought it would be best to inform you of what we’ve learned as soon as possible.” Lifting both his brows, Vincenzo spoke with an impatient tone to his voice. “And?” “Our men have just arrived from New York and are on their way in for debrief as we speak.” “How many in total?” Vincenzo asked as his eyes flicked from one man to the next of those standing before him. “Over two-hundred and counting so far.” Domenico announced proudly. “Not to mention our connections already located here in Canada with their allegiant forces and hired soldiers. All up were currently looking at around… three hundred, maybe three fifty.” The large grin spread wide across his face showed just how pleased Vincenzo was with what he had just heard his second-in-command announce. “Excellent.” Vincenzo mused. At last, they had numbers, which was unfortunately always something Dante had plenty of. Now the playing field appeared much more even for the both of them. Their next step would be to outsmart Dante Romano, who was in Vincenzo’s opinion the smartest and most cunning Mafia Boss that he had ever had to go up against. “And that’s not all.” Domenico suddenly added, apparently excited about something as he turned his head to the side and gave Jack a nod. In doing so, Domenico had just given his silent permission for his new henchman Jack to take lead with sharing the new information with their Don. Something that Jack felt great pride with as he smiled and took a step forward, clearing his throat. “With respect, Don Moroni… I found out the reason why Dante came here in the first place.” Jack announced with a bow of his head and a smile. “I’m listening…” Vincenzo prompted. “You’re not gonna believe this, capo.” Domenico added from where he stood beside his newest underling, Jack. “Alexa’s not who she thinks she is.” Jack explained vaguely, causing his Don to frown in confusion. “What are you talking about?” the Don demanded, eager to get straight to the point. “It was hard for me initially but… I did some digging and well, your new wife… she’s a Levine.” At first Vincenzo didn’t connect the dots as he remained confused as to what this younger henchman was trying to tell him. Sure, he’d heard of the Canadian Mafia Family known as the Levine’s. But how exactly did this relate to Alexa? “I’m not following.” he admitted. “Alexa is the secret granddaughter of Don Liam Levine, head of the most powerful and feared mafia clan here in Canada.” Jack proclaimed, holding up several papers in his hand. “I’ve got the birth records to prove it. Whether she knows it or not, she’s related to Don Levine by blood!” Vincenzo’s eyes were wide with astonishment and wonder as he slowly moved to stand from the lounge. He reached out and snatched the documents from the henchman standing before him, quickly scanning their content before he finally lifted his gaze upwards once more. “Well, I’ll be damned… that woman continues to surprise me again and again…” he mused with a crooked smile. “I suppose some introductions are in order then... Domenico, arrange a meeting with Don Levine as soon as possible.” Matching his Don’s smile, the underboss nodded his head as he replied. “Way ahead of you, boss.” - Now deciding to take a break from their relaxing dip in the pool, Roberto climbed out of the warm water and headed off to gather their towels for the girls to vacate the pool. Immediately noticing that something was clearly off with her bestie, judging by her expression and the fact that Alexa had barely even spoken a word or two since joining them, Willow was determined to get to the bottom of whatever was worrying her friend. As soon as her doating man was out of ear shot, the red head joined Alexa, carefully balancing herself with both her arms against the edge. “Alright, something’s on your mind.” Willow announced confidently, getting straight to the point as she turned to look Alexa in the eye. “What’s going on?” Frowning in mock confusion, Alexa looked at Willow as she spoke. “What are you on about?” “Seriously? We’re gonna do this are we?” Both of Willow’s brows lifted high on her forehead in disbelief as she went on. “I know you better than anyone else, Lex. And I can tell when something’s eating away at you, as it clearly is right now. So, we can do this one of two ways…” She paused purposely, to give emphasis to getting her point across. That she wasn’t planning on backing down from this until Alexa had been completely honest with her. “Either you keep hiding your feelings from me and allow it to keep eating away more and more, until you finally break and do something you’ll probably later regret… or… you can tell me what the problem is, and we solve it together. Like we always do.” Suddenly motivated and highly moved by her friend’s words, Alexa found herself smiling in response. Willow was a true friend. Albeit, she was also kind of bossy and controlling and a little overbearing at times… But her reliably loving bestie was always there for her whenever things got rough. Willow was never one to back down from an issue or to give up on Alexa, no matter what. And in that very moment, Alexa felt great gratitude for having someone like her in her life. Taking a deep breath into her lungs to further ground and prepare her for what she was about to share with her best friend, Alexa exhaled before turning to face Willow and look her directly in the eye. “When I was kidnapped by Vincenzo… something… bad happened.” She managed to announce at least that much aloud, making sure to keep her voice down so that no one but Willow would hear her horrifying words. Ensuring that she remained impassive, Willow nodded her head while maintaining eye contact as she spoke in a calm manner. “Ok… so what happened exactly?” Willow asked. Swallowing away her nerves, Alexa’s tongue darted out to moisten her now incredibly dry lips. “Willow, what I’m about to tell you is extremely serious and you can’t share this with anyone. Not even Roberto, you got it?” Alexa made her declaration with sudden desperation apparent in her tone of voice. Her highly worried expression only added to it as she waited for Willow to agree to keep what she was about to tell her a secret. “Willow, promise me!” “Ok, ok… I promise, alright? I won’t tell anyone. Cross my heart.” Willow agreed nodding her head as she maintained constant eye contact and focused on keeping her expression void of emotion. “Lex, you’re scaring me. Please, will you tell me what happened?” Alexa could now feel the tears beginning to form in her eyes as her vision began somewhat hazy. Her bottom lip began to tremble as she fought to withhold her fear and disgust of the memories she still had of her most recent kidnapping. And of what she had been made to do against her will. Sniffing, she opened her mouth to speak. “I didn’t want to do it. At first, I thought it was just a joke. I thought he was just messing with me or something. Trying to get me to bite back by seriously pissing me off…” Alexa scoffed, shaking her head. Deciding to take a wild stab at it, Willow spoke with concern. “Did he, you know… force himself on you?” she enquired with disgust; her brows both furrowed inwards as she waited for Alexa to give her reply. Suddenly Alexa’s frown deepened, as if she were now surprised and disgusted by such a disturbing accusation. “What? No! No, no, no… not that.” “Oh, thank god!” You could visibly see the relief flooding over her as Willow let out a long sigh and blinked several times after hearing that Alexa had not in fact been sexually assaulted during her recent kidnapping. The sad thing was that it wouldn’t have been the first time it had happened if Alexa had been sexually assaulted. “Will, none of this is gonna sound real and it’s probably not gonna make a lot of sense either. The truth is that I’m in some serious trouble and I… I honestly don’t know what I should do.” Alexa admitted with great vulnerability, shrugging her shoulders up and down in confusion and despair. “Well, if he didn’t try anything with you, then what did happen?” Willow enquired, running out of ideas. Alexa remained still with her eyes fixed on Willow’s as she summoned up her remaining courage to spill her disturbing secret with her trusted bestie. It was now or never. “Vincenzo… he tricked me, that fucker! He pretended that he had Alessandro held captive and promised to return him if I willingly signed some form he had.” Willow, still frowning, was trying to put the pieces of this strange puzzle together. To make sense of what it was that her distressed friend was having a difficult time trying to convey to her. “A form? What form?” “Honestly, I had no idea what it was at the time. I was scared for my baby, so I just signed it. I wanted Alessandro back. I needed to know that he was safe…” “Yeah, I get that. I’d probably do the same thing in your position, Lex.” Willow agreed with a reassuring nod and a smile. “So, what happened next?” Alexa was then forced to go on with her heartbreaking confession. “There was this stupid little ceremony held, with a priest and an alter and everything. Somehow, he had the whole thing organised beforehand. And by the time I realised what was actually happening… it was too late.” Now Willow was even more confused. A priest… An alter… She looked away, apparently deep in thought for a moment as Alexa went on with her recollection of the unfortunate event. “They had me restrained and gagged. I couldn’t say or do anything even if I wanted to. I couldn’t leave. And that’s when…” She paused, apparently unable to say the most important part of her admittance. And it was precisely at that exact moment that everything fell into place for Willow. Her crystal blue eyes widened with realisation and she turned her head to the side, meeting Alexa’s tear-filled gaze for some sort of confirmation. “No way…” the red head muttered in horror. “He... he didn’t! Right?” “He did... it was a wedding ceremony, Willow.” Alexa made the painful admittance to her best friend while fighting back the oncoming tears. “Vincenzo forced me to marry him… I’m legally his wife now.”
