Fiona could feel her entire body tensing up as she was suddenly seized by an unknown person from behind.
His arm was currently wrapped around her waist, and she had a large hand covering her mouth preventing her from making another sound.
Struggling, she tried to free herself from his grasp.
For all she knew, it could have been people working with those killers outside the door!
“Shhh…”
She was surprised as a totally calm voice spoke to her softly from behind. It was the person holding onto her.
Surprised, she turned her head to the side and met eyes with someone she thought looked quite familiar… at least from what she thought she could see in such a darkened room.
In truth, Fiona felt obvious confusion in her current situation.
She wasn’t sure whether she should try to fight against this person or instead listen to what he had to say.
But strangely enough, the tone of his voice helped her decide. That and also what he had to say to her next.
“Try to relax, you’re safe now.”
The mysterious man holding onto her whispered softly into her ear as together they watched the door continuing to be hit hard from the other side, over and over again.
‘THUMP… THUMP… THUMP!’
“Get behind me and don’t make a sound. I mean it, not one sound.” the voice ordered with his deep voice and smooth tone.
Nodding her head to show him that she understood, Fiona was then released as he had promised, and quickly did as she was told, darting in behind the man who had in her opinion just saved her life.
Surprisingly, she then came to learn that he wasn’t alone.
‘BANG!’
The thunderous sound of the door as it finally came crashing down towards the floor alerted both Fiona and her mystery saviour as the two, armed men barged inside the dark room in search of their apparent prey.
“Where’d she go?” one of them asked as the pair peered around, their eyes adjusting to the darkness they now found themselves in.
“She has to be in here somewhere.” the other proclaimed.
“Find the b***h. She needs to be silenced.”
With that the two men started moving further into the room, their eyes peering around in the shadowed darkness to find the woman they had just chased inside.
But with the flick of a light switch, the tables suddenly turned.
At first, the light of the room appeared somewhat blinding to almost everyone inside, many of them shielding their eyes from it for a moment as their eyesight adjusted.
When it had, both armed waiters stood staring ahead at the lone figure seated on an armchair in front of them.
Dressed in one of his powerful suits, he appeared quite casual as he sat back in the comfortable chair with both arms resting on the armrests and his eyes fixated on the two intruders who had just joined him.
The poor fools.
The sound of several footsteps moving in behind them caused both intruders to turn and see several men moving across to block off their only exit.
Each of the armed henchmen were standing with their arms crossed over their chests and with sinister expressions upon their faces.
The waiters had just been unknowingly lured into a trap.
“Gentlemen. Is there something I can help you with?”
The man seated in the armchair asked his question quite casually, with a highly confident aura radiating from him as his emerald-green eyes moved from one intruder to the next.
“Perhaps you’d care to explain what happened with my door?”
Suddenly the penny dropped for both of them as they recoignised just who it was seated in the chair before them.
The powerful suit.
The dark hair and almost glowing green eyes.
The strangely calm and confident mannerism.
“s**t… that’s him.” the smaller waiter whispered to the larger one.
“It’s the f*****g Reaper!”
The larger waiter nudged his companion, warning him to shut his mouth.
Fiona was hidden in behind several of the henchmen, her eyes locked onto the two attackers as she was forced to simply watch the scene unfolding before her very eyes.
Grinning from ear to ear, Dante pulled himself up from the armchair and adjusted his jacket suit and black silk tie as he spoke.
“I see you know who I am…” the Don mused.
“Then I’m sure you’re also well aware of what I do to idiots who break into my home unannounced. Especially those who threaten members of my staff.”
Both of the waiter’s expressions suddenly showed terror as they looked past the group of men to find the hidden away woman that they had chased into the room to begin with.
And as they did, the colour of their faces drained away as they then noticed the countless other henchmen surrounding the room.
Indeed, Dante wasn’t alone. Far from it.
Now they were clearly outnumbered an in some serious trouble.
Placing both his hands onto either of his hips and tilting his head off to the side, Dante spoke as if he were deep in thought now.
“Now, we can do this one of two ways.” he announced the one-sided offer to the intruders.
“Either you willingly give me every single detail of who hired you and who your accomplices are… or I make you tell me.”
Both men shared a side glance for a moment before they returned their gazes to their rival Don.
And judging from the smirks showing upon their faces, the pair had already made their decisions.
“We’re not telling you s**t, Reaper!” the smaller man snapped defiantly.
“Yeah, you might as well just kill us!” the other added defiantly as the two made their stand.
But Dante did not react as they had expected him to… no. Quite the opposite in fact.
The Reaper’s smile only widened with delight upon hearing their choice. It seemed it was time for him and his men to do what they enjoyed most of all.
“Very well… I guess it’s the hard way then.”
Pausing for a second, Dante turned his head only slightly to lock eyes with Cecilio and his henchman in training Theo, among the countless others currently surrounding the room.
“Boys, tie them up.”
With their Don’s command, the henchmen began closing the space between them and the two knife-wielding intruders.
Cecilio pulled out his gun and within the fraction-of-a-second had skilfully aimed and fired two shots.
‘BANG! BANG!’
Each bullet managed to hit it’s intended target, shattering both men’s left kneecaps and spurting blood all over the carpeted floor.
“AAARGH!”
The two men shouted out in unison as pain overcame their ability to think or even act, and the two fell to the floor clutching at their damaged legs.
Their blood-covered knives fell to the floor landing just beside either of them.
Making sure to first kick the knives out of their reach, Cecilio and his men began seizing both intruders and pulling them up to their feet.
In the meantime, several other men loyal to the Romano’s dragged over two chairs for their prisoners to be seated on for their interrogations.
Slamming both men down onto the chairs, the henchmen got to work binding their wrists and ankles, attaching them to their chairs with rope as their victims continued grunting and moaning in agony.
“Yikes…”
Dante hissed, feigning concern for the two as he came to stand front and centre with his eyes fixed on the injuries these rival henchmen had sustained.
“That looks really painful.”
Gritting their teeth together, both men chose to keep their mouths shut and not to respond to the Reaper’s taunts. As much as they wanted to shout out profanities at him.
“Maybe you should have taken me up on my offer earlier, huh?” Dante added.
“Although, it’s not too late for either of you to change your mind.”
The larger of the two men kept his eyes downcast, outright refusing to believe anything that the Reaper had to say.
But the smaller one looked about ready to break.
His eyes continued to lift up to meet Dante’s every now and then, as if he were considering changing his mind. Spilling his guts, so to speak.
“I’ll tell you what… I’ll allow only one of you to live.” Dante announced proudly with a sinister smirk curving the corner of his mouth.
“Let’s play ourselves a little game, shall we? The rules are simple… first one to tell me what I want to know… gets to live.”
Upon hearing this, the smaller intruder immediately spoke up.
It seemed that Dante’s plan had worked after all!
“I’ll do it! I’ll tell you anything you want to know, please!”
But this only seemed to piss the second intruder off as he faced his companion with a furious glare of betrayal.
“Shut the f**k up you cowardly cunt!” he snarled.
“Keep your f*****g mouth shut, you hear! Don’t tell him anyth-”
‘-BANG!’
The shot went off suddenly, causing the smaller intruder to jump in his seat as he had a front row seat to watch his companion being executed right then and there with a single shot to the forehead.
He sat staring at the now hunched over man tied to a chair beside him for a moment as his ears continued to ring from the overpowering sound of the gunshot.
Blood began to run down the dead man’s face, dripping down onto his knees below as his lifeless body remained still and silent.
Lowering his gun which was still smoking from its nozzle, Dante then slipped it back into his harness before adjusting his jacket again.
It appeared that the Don himself had been the one to inflict the lethal shot that executed the second intruder.
Clearly there was no further use for him.
Finding himself at a sudden loss for words, the remaining intruder slowly turned to look up and meet Dante’s gaze.
A small part of him had expected that he too would be shot just like his fellow companion.
But his life had been spared. And he knew the reason why.
Making his way over to then crouch down right in front of his newest prisoner, a fairly confident looking Dante gave his next command with a serious expression and a tone of warning hinted within his tone of voice.
“Looks like you’re our lucky winner…” he spoke with a grin.
“So, start talking.”
