Having just finished having a nice, warm shower and now dressing herself in a comfortable short, black silken nightie, Alexa was about to climb herself into bed when she paused right beside the mattress.
Her curiosity had been eating away at her ever since Dante left to go and, in his own words, handle business. Even at such a late hour in the evening.
Something felt off about the entire situation.
He was definitely hiding something from her. And no matter what she did to try and get her mind off it, her every thought circulated back to the same thing every single time.
She wanted to know what Dante was up to.
Already having herself somewhat of an idea of the terrible kinds of things that a Mafia Don did when he referred to ‘business’, Alexa knew that she might not like whatever it was he was hiding from her.
Maybe he was hiding it from her for a reason.
Letting out a long anxious sigh, she glanced at the digital alarm clock positioned on the bedside table and took note of the time it showed.
10:58pm.
Maybe she could head downstairs to get herself a warm glass of milk to help soothe her to sleep?
And if she happened to run into Dante or any of the others, then it would be a bonus.
Deciding she would first cover herself up before leaving the bedroom, she took her long black lace silken robe and pulled it up over her shoulders, threading one arm through each of the two long sleeves, one at a time.
Grabbing her phone, she headed for the door and exited the room.

At the rear end of the manor several black cars had finally arrived, carrying in them the henchmen loyal to Don Moroni who had come there that night to complete a mission.
Filing out of the vehicles one by one, the darkly dressed henchmen quickly made their way towards the staff entrance located at the back of the manor, just as they had been advised to do so by their contact earlier on.
Within seconds they had made it inside the manor without being seen by any of the Romano henchmen or guards.
Now, with their mission to complete the group of a dozen or so skilled mercenaries who were led by Domenico himself advanced their way further inside through the maze of adjoining rooms and corridors.
They were headed towards their intended targets.
-
As she wandered down the dimly lit hallway towards the first set of stairs, Alexa thought she heard something coming from somewhere else in the manor.
It sounded like a loud ‘bang’ but from what she could hear, it wasn’t anywhere near where she was now.
Perhaps the other side of the manor?
Continuing on, she wondered to herself if that had anything to do with whatever it was that Dante was caught up in right now.
Rounding several corners and descending the stairs to reach the first floor, Alexa took note of the lack of usually posted guards standing around.
At least she thought that there had been several more of them about during the day shift when compared with right now.
Where were all the guards?
A sudden wave of uneasiness washed over her as she then realised her intuition was in fact correct.
Something was off about this.
Something felt very wrong.
Pulling out her phone, she began typing a text message intended for Dante...
‘Dante, guards are missing and it’s too quiet. Something feels wrong. Where are you?’
Hitting ‘send’, she continued on her way towards the kitchen, eager to find that glass of warm milk and put this whole menacing day behind her.
As she reached one of the nearby lounging areas, Alexa suddenly paused at the sight of several dark figures who had just come in through the back staff entrance and were at that very moment moving together in perfect formation down a neighbouring hallway.
She could see their figures moving one by one through the distorted rain glass windows separating the lounging area from the neighbouring hallway beside her.
Luckily for her, they hadn’t sighted her on the other side just yet.
Almost immediately she recoignised that whoever these people were, they weren’t any of Dante’s men and her heart began to race with obvious fear.
Who were they?
How did they get inside the manor?
What had they come here for?
Pulling out her phone, she quickly typed a new message to Dante and hit ‘send’…
‘Intruders in manor! WHERE R U?’
Fearful for the safety of her son, she quickly headed back up in the same direction she had come from initially, making sure to remain out of sight from whoever this group of people were in the manor with them now.
She needed to get back up to her son’s room and then take him into the safety of their panic room before they were found!
-
With the captured intruder singing like a canary and giving them everything they needed, Dante and his men had moved onto the next phase of their secret plot.
Taking out Moroni’s team.
And if they were as punctual as Dante had hoped, they had more than likely just arrived!
A sudden vibration in his pants pocket caused him to glance downwards for a second as he and his men stood in their positions, hidden and waiting for their unsuspecting enemies to walk right into their next trap.
Reaching down into his pocket, the Don pulled out his phone and read the first message he had received from Alexa…
‘Dante, guards are missing and it’s too quiet. Something feels wrong. Where are you?’
As he began to type a message to her in response, telling her that everything’s alright and to just get some sleep he felt his phone vibrating a second time, alerting him that he had just received a second message.
Checking the second message his face fell as realisation hit him suddenly…
‘Intruders in manor. WHERE R U?’
Alexa had sighted Moroni’s men!
That meant that she was out of her room and presumably in serious danger!
“Shit.” he whispered under his breath as he glanced up at Luca who was standing not too far away from the Don.
Giving Dante a confused expression, Luca could clearly see that something was seriously wrong, merely by the look in the Don’s eyes as he frantically typed away a text message and hit ‘send’ before pocketing his phone and stepping out from his hiding place.
With their boss coming out, Luca and several others looked to one another as Dante came to stop beside Luca, leaning in to whisper something.
“Alexa might be in danger. I have to go find her.” the Don announced.
“Go, we’ve got this.” Luca assured him with a nod.
“Go capo, quickly!”
With a nod of silent thanks, Dante then headed off through the nearby doorway as he began his search of the manor for his missing fiancé.
Luca and the others were left to wait out their newly arriving enemy henchmen. They planned on giving the intruders one hell of a welcoming gift!

Carefully sneaking her way up the stairs, Alexa was suddenly startled as the phone in her hand vibrated, alerting her to a new text message. One that Dante had sent her.
Opening it she quickly read the message…
‘I’m safe. Where are you? Get Alessandro to the panic room asap!’
She began typing a response when she heard a sound coming from somewhere nearby and immediately froze.
Alexa hadn’t even realised in the moment that she was holding her breath, fearful that whoever was following her might hear her panicked breaths and come after her.
Her chest heaved in and out with her frantic breathing as she backed away from the nearby doorway into a small opening between a wall and a dresser.
From her position here she could see the doorway clearly enough to identify if she was being followed by one of the intruders or not.
She crouched down in her position, phone still gripped tightly in her hand as she felt her entire body beginning to tremble with terror.
A feeling she had hoped she would never have to feel ever again.
Seconds passed by before she noticed a shadow forming at the open doorway.
Someone was moving slowly towards it and were about to pass through.
Lifting her hand up to cover her mouth, as if this would help to keep her hidden, Alexa watched on as a gun slowly poked its way through the doorway’s opening.
Followed by the hand holding onto it.
In the darkened shadows of the hallway she couldn’t quite make out whose hand it was, but then the person’s body poked out from the doorway and her eyes widened with dread.
It was a man dressed as one of their waiters?
Alexa couldn’t understand why a waiter would be holding a gun in his hand and wisely decided to remain hidden from him as he continued to slowly skulk around in search of anyone roaming about.
She got a bad feeling from him.
But just when she thought she was out of danger, he turned around and proceeded to creep closer towards her hiding spot, one slow step at a time.
As her hand gripped even tighter onto her phone, Alexa suddenly remembered that she had it with her and got a sudden idea.
One that might or might not work.
Desperate to try and flee from whoever this person was, she quickly worked on switching her phone’s torch setting on.
Just as he came within the space of less than three metres away from her, she suddenly held out the phone, shining the bright torch light into the waiter’s eyes and causing him to groan with a wince, covering his eyes.
“Ah! What the f**k!” he snarled aloud.
This gave her the moment she needed to dart out from her hiding spot and into the next doorway down the hall as the waiter’s eyesight recovered in the darkness.
"Hey, you little b***h! Get back here!”

Not getting any sort of a reply text message from Alexa, it was clear to Dante now that she was indeed in some serious trouble as he continued scowering the manor one room at a time with his loaded gun held out in front of him.
He moved with skill and precision from one space to the next, desperate to find Alexa alive and unharmed.
Glancing down at his phone’s screen, it displayed what appeared to be some sort of a map of the manor with what looked like two different coloured flashing dots on it.
Both were in different locations to one another.
The red dot signified Dante and the blue dot was Alexa’s phone.
After the countless kidnappings and threats to their lives, Dante had recently organised to have a special tracker placed inside her phone.
Of course, this was in addition to the tracker he also had implanted into her engagement ring without her knowledge.
If she ever went missing again, he would have a much better shot at locating her quickly.
Using her phone right now, he noticed how it appeared to be moving rapidly from one room to the next and judging by its direction, she was headed back upstairs as he had told her to.
“Questa è la mia ragazza intelligente.” (That’s my smart girl.) he whispered proudly to himself with a smile.
Now having a better idea of where she was headed, Dante pocketed his phone as he took a secretive shortcut that would lead him straight up to the second floor without having to take the stairs.
One that hardly anyone even knew existed.
Dante needed to get to his family.
To keep them safe.
He could only hope that by the time he did eventually manage to reach them, that nothing would have happened to either Alexa or Alessandro.
