Chapter 9 - Find My Wife!

2373 Words
Unfortunately for him, Vincenzo hadn’t yet learnt about what happened to Alexa’s vehicle until he finally arrived back at their agreed upon hideout early in the morning, after finishing his urgent errand at the other side of town. And of course, by then it had been more than four hours since Alexa and Vincenzo’s nephew Lanzo had apparently vanished into thin air. With no clues or traces whatsoever of what had happened to either of them. After being informed, Vincenzo had Domenico and a small group of his men go in person to retrace the last known route of Alexa’s vehicle from the villa. To try and locate where both she and his nephew had gone. After much searching they eventually came across the buzzing scene where the lifeless bodies of both the Russian and the driver were being carted away in an ambulance to their next destination, the City Morgue. At the sight of the Police, Domenico made sure to keep his distance just in case as the crowds of bystanders gathered around out of curiosity. It was well known that the majority of the police force working in not only Long Island and New York City, but also many other states were under the Reaper’s thumb, and he couldn’t risk being sighted by any of them. Using his connections though, he was able to acquire details that both the Russian and the driver had been shot in the head after their bodies were examined at the Morgue. Still, he had no idea of who was responsible for the attack… Yet. And of course, both men had been killed by Alexa only hours earlier. Not that Domenico had any clue about that important fact. And of course, as soon as this information was reported back to Don Moroni, Vincenzo was furious about the massive f**k-up that had occurred with him none the wiser. He wanted answers… He wanted blood… But most of all, he wanted Alexa back! She was his bargaining tool with his rival and the one way he had to get to Dante in the deepest level possible. He would get her back, one way or another and he didn’t care what resources he needed to perform this task. “She has to be here in the city somewhere… have Ivan and his men look into their contacts and see what they come up with.” Vincenzo began barking commands as he paced back and forth in front of the fireplace. Domenico and some other men stood off to the side with their hands crossed in front of them as they listened in silence to their Don. “Also, make sure to enquire with our connections in the other states, I want everyone’s eyes open twenty-four seven. As soon as anyone spots my dearest wife, I want to be the first to know! Is that understood?” “Of course, capo.” Domenico replied with a nod, as did the other men. “Well, what are you all waiting for?” Vincenzo snapped with fierce blazing eyes. “Get the f**k out there and FIND HER!” Instantaneous movement occurred right away as everyone cleared the room. Everyone but Domenico. “This is… it’s unacceptable!” Vincenzo boomed, still pacing. “I had her… I f*****g had her! Everything was going according to plan.” He turned to look at Domenico. “How the hell did this happen? She was travelling with my nephew for f**k sakes! She was meant to be in safe hands. That was the whole reason for having Lanzo travel with her!” Domenico shrugged both his shoulders as he spoke his response. “Until we know what happened in that car, we can’t say for sure what happened, capo.” Vincenzo stopped for a moment, instead heading for the bar and pouring himself a glass of tequila. By the time he was finished the glass was almost three quarters of the way full! This had clearly gotten to him on a far deeper level. Tossing his head back and sculling the tangy alcohol, Vincenzo sighed before he then went on to speak with his back facing the loyal underboss. His tone of voice was softer now, filled with entire concentration. “Whoever did this was clearly skilled… precise... they knew exactly when and where the vehicle was traveling in order to intercept them.” Domenico seemed to take this information on board as he paced across the length of the room to join his boss beside the bar. “Maybe we have a rat within our ranks?” he suggested, lifting his left brow. Vincenzo let out a deepened animalistic growl at such a suggestion. That was the last thing that he needed right now, especially when he seemed to only just be keeping his head above water with his rival, the infamous Reaper. His fingers tapped against the wooden bar in front of him, drumming in a regular rhythm as he thought aloud for a moment. “Whoever it was took out both the Russian and my driver with minimal effort.” Vincenzo pointed out. “So, I suppose we can exclude the Russians being involved at this stage.” “The Russians?” Domenico seemed taken aback by such a suggestion. “You seriously think the Butcher’s out for you, boss? He’s been working well with us so far.” Vincenzo’s left brow lifted ever-so-slightly as he responded with a smirk. “Honestly, in any other circumstance I wouldn’t put it past him...” The Don replied, while tossing back another mouthful of his settling beverage and swallowed before he went on. “But in this case, no. I don’t believe Ivan’s responsible for this mess. No… it was someone else. Someone who had both the motive and opportunity to easily take out both our men and get their hands on my nephew and wife...” “What about the Reaper?” Domenico suggested with a shrug. “He could have been the one who intercepted them.” Vincenzo scoffed, shaking his head as he pushed drummed his fingers once again. “No, Dante’s too busy running around like a headless chook right now. The bastard’s far too busy to make a move on me. I can confidently say that I’m several steps ahead of our dearest friend, the Reaper.” The Don let out a long sigh. “No, whoever did this had to have taken both Lanzo and Alexa alive, or the body count would have been larger.” “Ok… so, what does that leave us with?” Domenico questioned, having apparently run out of suspects now. Vincenzo appeared to think in silence for a moment as he lifted the almost empty glass and took a giant swig of it, swallowing it all down as his face scrunched up at the bitter tang left on his tongue afterwards. He slammed the empty glass back down on the wooden bar top. “No f*****g idea.” he announced with disdain. - Dante was allowed entrance into the hotel suite by one of Gabriele’s men soon after he had knocked on the door. The group filled the front room almost entirely as Dante instead continued on towards the bedroom further back, intent on finding Alexa. He needed to see her with his own two eyes. To know that she was indeed alive and well as promised. Stepping in through the open doorway leading him into the bedroom, Dante froze as everyone in the room’s attention suddenly turned towards him. His eyes scanned the room in desperation from left to right until he finally located his woman sitting in a chair beside the bed. Beside Lanzo. Dante’s blood began to boil at the sight alone, his eyes narrowing only slightly. As he stood silently in the open doorway, the entire room fell eerily silent. And of course, none were more thankful to see him here in person than Alexa herself! She turned her head to the side and noticed him, her heart immediately filling with happiness. As soon as the Don’s blazing emerald-green eyes locked onto Alexa’s warm brown ones, time seemed to still instantaneously. Nothing else around them seemed to matter or even exist. Alexa could feel her heart ‘thudding’ loudly with excitement at the sight of her handsomely dangerous love, having finally shown up to save the day. Dante’s expression showed such concern and the fear in his eyes was evident as he visibly released a built-up breath of reassurance at the sight of her. His powerful shoulders slumped forwards as he spoke his pet name for her aloud in a whispered breath. “Bella…” “Dante.” Alexa whispered his name with a dazzling smile which only continued to grow in size as she moved to stand up from the chair she was sitting in and crossed the room within a matter of seconds. Leaping into his waiting arms, Alexa buried her face into his muscular chest and wrapped both arms around him. Dante’s welcoming yet intoxicating scent enveloped her and immediately made her feel safe. The warmth of his arms wrapped around her, constricting her in against him only added to her sudden feeling of comfort. Dante lovingly buried his face into her long blonde hair and inhaled her sweet scent in through his nostrils. Something Dante had desperately needed up until this very moment. “Grazie a Dio...” (Thank God...) He whispered in against her softened hair as his lips began marking their territory by kissing the top of her head, over and over again. “I can’t believe you’re here.” she whispered in against his chest. “Dante, I’m so sorry… I-” Instantly silencing her, the Don parted from her for a moment as he gave her a frown and spoke whilst shaking his head slowly from side to side. He looked her directly in the eye as he did so. “-You have nothing to be sorry about, bella. Do you hear me?” he insisted. “Nothing.” Furrowing her brows inwards, Alexa wanted more than anything to tell him everything about what had happened during her time as Vincenzo’s unwilling captive. And that included the unfortunate occurrence of being forced to marry the bastard against her will. Legally speaking, Alexa was now Mrs. Moroni... She felt inner guilt more than she ever had before. As if a part of her heart had a powerful vice clamped over it and was continuously crushing it inwards. More and more with every moment she continued to recall that she hadn’t yet told Dante about what happened. But as Alexa looked so deeply into those loving emerald-green eyes of his, eyes she had grown to adore more than anything else on this entire planet, she simply couldn’t seem to find the words to tell him. She couldn’t bear to lose Dante now, knowing how badly he might react when he found out the truth… Instead smiling to hide her concerns, Alexa nodded right before Dante leaned in and pressed his delicious lips up against hers, consuming her with a passionate and yet desperate kiss. One that had been long-coming. And of course, one that he much needed. As he began exploring with his tongue, the sound of someone clearing their throats from nearby happened to snap both the Don and his woman out of their intimate moment. “A-hem!” The couple both opened their eyes and turned to notice that everyone else in the room was standing there watching in a somewhat awkward fashion. Unsure of what they should do or say to break things up and get down to business. After all, they still had a lot to do. They needed to get out of there and back to the mansion where it was safest. Nicola who was leaning up against the inside of the doorway to the bedroom had a large smile spread wide across his face as he was entertained by this rather inspiring moment shared between his Don and Alexa. “Good to see you’re alright, piccolo.” he spoke happily to Alexa, using his nickname for her since they had first met. This caused her to smile too as she spoke her response to him. “Thanks Nicola. It’s certainly good to see your face again.” “Come on Alexa, there’s no need to lie to the man…” Luca chimed in from where he was off to the side with a disgusted frown on his handsome face. “We all know Nicola’s ugly mug isn’t what’s really making you smile right now.” “Ehi! Stai zitto, stronzo.” (Hey! Shut up, asshole.) Nicola snapped back at him with a frown, giving his underling a boisterous shove off to the side as he spoke. It wasn’t a serious shove, merely playful but it got the intended message across. Chuckling playfully, Luca took the shove like a man before he reached out and patted the giant second-in-command on the back to reassure him as he spoke again. “Calm down big fella… you know I’m just kidding right?” Rolling his eyes, Nicola crossed both his massive arms over his muscular chest and let out a huff. It was only now that Dante had finally noticed who it was sitting upright on the bed mere metres away from them and his smile instantly fell into a dark and depraved look. One that had even Alexa worried. Dante’s eyes narrowed as he stared directly into Lanzo’s eyes from where he sat. His inner rage beginning to submerge from within as he prepared to deal with his newest traitor. “You…” He spoke with venom lacing the singular word. Before anyone could stop him, the Don suddenly reached down and unholstered one of his twin guns, right before lifting it up and aiming it directly at the bed ridden Lanzo who’s eyes widened substantially in shock. The next words coming out of Dante’s mouth were sour, filled with hatred and malice aimed for the wounded Lanzo. “You of all people know how things work, Lanzo...” Dante announced sternly. “All rats must die.”
