The journalist’s name was Theo Marsh, and he was the kind of writer whose reputation had been built on exactly the category of story Nadia was handing him. His column in a prominent financial magazine had ended two careers and one marriage that I could find in a quick search, and his particular skill was not fabrication but contextualization, taking true things and arranging them in a light that made them into something other than what they were. The Vantage Meridian filing was technically a matter of record, which meant Nadia hadn’t broken any laws by passing it to him. What she had passed, along with the filing, was a narrative frame, the story of a young woman sold into a marriage with a scarred, controlling billionaire, the forced arrangement, the half-brother who tried to rescue her.
