I started writing the second book in October. Not a sequel. Not a continuation of The Choosing in the same form. Something different, an exploration of the things the first book had gestured toward but not fully entered, the chains of connection, the way a story travels, what it means for something true to find the people who need it in places and forms its origin couldn’t predict. I called it The Distance Things Travel. I started with the letter from Seoul. I wrote about the Edinburgh man and Callum’s commission. I wrote about Elise Vane and Preston’s final letter. I wrote about the anonymous texts and the people who had been watching from the margins of the story and had found ways to signal their presence without fully entering it.
