We went to see Callum’s building in spring, when Thomas was four months and portable and the building had been open for six months and was being written about in the way that things get written about when they are the good kind of new. We drove up on a Friday, the four of us, with Callum meeting us at the waterfront and Petra there with the specific calm of someone four months from her own delivery and in full possession of her own certainty.
