I had not planned a fourth book. What Truth Does had been finished and published and was doing its work and I had thought the trilogy was complete, three books that formed a whole, each one further from the origin and closer to the larger truth.
But Eleanor changed things.
Because Eleanor was not a chapter in someone else’s story. She was the beginning of a story that had been running longer than any of us had known, the question that had been living in this house since before the house was the shape it currently was, the specific question that I had arrived into without knowing the house was already asking it.
