It took a while with Lucian stopping every few minutes to check that Evelynn was okay, but they eventually made their way back to the pack house. Lucian shifted back and took Evelynn into his arms bridal-style and carried her up to his room. “Uh, Lucian.. This isn’t m-my room..” She stuttered softly. He just grinned down at her whilst he placed her down on his bed. “It will be soon! That old room is too small and I need to make sure nothing happens to you again,” He said with confidence. “Um, I-“ She tried to speak, but was swiftly cut off by him. “No, no! No excuses! I will not take no for an answer, Evelynn,” His tone was serious, telling her he really did mean it. She just sighed with a fond smile, “Alright, fine.” It was no use to fight him over this. Lucian walked back to the door, opening it. “I’ll be back very soon! I have to get you some food and water, you need it,” He said and quickly ran off downstairs before she could protest. He ordered the servants to cook a nice, quick meal whilst he got her a large glass of water. It was all brought up on a tray that he handed to her as she sat on the bed. “Eat up, sweetheart,” The man muttered, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead eliciting blush from her cheeks. Lucian sat there beside her, letting her eat and drink at her own pace. He had a happy smile on his face and he looked like an excited little kid. When she was done, he took the tray and set it down onto the floor. “Get some sleep, okay? I’ll be here when you wake up,” He promised gently, helping her lay down and pulling the covers tightly over her body. She fell asleep quickly, emitting soft noises as she slept. He leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, gently stroking away the strands of hair falling down her face. Lucian sat there beside her for hours, letting her sleep. Watching her be so peaceful soothed his rage and allowed Leo to calm for their mate. When she awoke, he was still sat there but now playing on his phone. Her tired eyes peered up at him as he gives her a soft smile, placing his phone down. “How are you feeling after your nap?” He asks softly, reaching his hand out to stroke her hair. She hummed softly, looking around before training her eyes back on his. “A little better,” She admitted quietly with her sleep addled mind. Her word’s bring a happy sigh out of him. “That’s good, Eve,” He whispers, moving his hand from her hair to her hand that lay limp across her stomach, squeezing it. Evelynn takes the glass of water that he hands her, slowly sipping it as to not irritate her sore throat whilst he gently rubs her back. “I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you,” Lucian whimpers, wrapping his arms around her in a hug from the side. “I failed you, my mate. I told you nothing would happen and-“ He gets interrupted when she gently thumps her head against his chest and wrapped one arm around him too. “It’s okay..” She whispers, “It’s not your fault, you didn’t do anything wrong..” The man presses his lips to the top of her head and whispers, “But I couldn’t protect you.. I failed and I broke my promise..” She turned in his hold, leaning up to gently press her lips to his jaw with a small smile. “No, you didn’t break your promise. It isn’t your fault they did that. You found me, that’s what matters. I’ll tell you that til you believe it.” He chuckled at her words, “Okay, but it will take a while to get me to believe it. But I’ll happily accept it if it means you stay with me, my mate.” “Why do mates mean so much to you, Lucian? I know it’s nice to find your mate and I’ve always dreamed of it, but why is it so important for you?” She asks, curiosity taking over her as she looks up at him. It elicits a sad smile from him as he cups her cheek and gently strokes the flesh. “I’ll tell you one day, my mate. Today is just not the day. But I promise I’ll tell you why,” Lucian muttered, leaning down to kiss her, “All you have to worry about right now is that you are mine and you must get better.” She giggles softly, smiling at the kiss. “Alright, alright.. I’ll get better for you.” After they calm down, he makes sure she eats more and has another glass of water. He also gets a servant to help her bathe and wash away the grime and dirt from the cabin. He settled her back into his bed, kissing her goodnight as he watched over her, holding her hand as she drifted off.
