He wasn’t thinking straight. All he saw was red as he shifted into his wolf form and began to search.
Starting around the main pack areas, he ransacked buildings, tearing the furniture apart in an attempt to find her.
Many of the high-ranking pack members attempted to confront him, but he shoved them all away, giving a growl in warning to those who would attempt to stop him.
He managed to search all the major areas of the pack within an hour and a half before running into the Beta, Oliver, who tried, and succeeded, to reason with him.
Oliver had, just 2 years prior, taken over as Beta after his father, the previous Beta passed. The Alpha thought Oliver would be best suited for the role considering his paternity, even when he was only 23.
Lucian shifted back and glared at the Beta, who sighed and rubbed a hand over his face.
“What happened?” Oliver asked, voice strained with frustration, “It better be something important with all this damage you’ve caused.”
Lucian growled as he thought about it, “My mate is gone.”
Oliver looked up at him with a raised eyebrow, “What do you mean, ‘gone’? Did she just leave or what?”
The younger huffed, eyes narrow, “No. She wouldn’t. My parents they- they took her somewhere and I can’t find her!” Leo sorrowfully howled in his mind at the reminder.
Oliver’s eyes widen.
“The Alpha and Luna.. took her? Are you sure? Why would they do that?” He asked, concerned for Lucian blaming his parents with such an accusation.
“YES!” Lucian snapped, “They- They were talking about it.. on the phone with- Ava..”
The Beta breathed out a shaky sigh, “They admitted to it? Why would they take her? She’s your mate!”
Lucian was getting antsy just sitting there.
“They want Ava to be my mate and become Luna.. My parents don’t like Evelynn and they won’t accept her as my mate!” He cried, frustrated.
Oliver groaned, “Okay- I’ll help you find her, okay? Just stop destroying things and hurting people! We’ve already had 6 people sent to the hospital because of your rampage.”
That made Lucian stop for a moment, feeling guilty.
“I’ll try,” He muttered, “But I have to find her.”
The Beta just nodded, “Just be careful. No more hurting people,” He continued with a sigh, “Let me search the rest of town, you go to the forest and surrounding areas.”
Lucian just nodded as he shifted again, now with a slightly more clear mind, and ran off to the surrounding properties, mindful not to harm anyone anymore.
————————————
Days pass by and by now it has been almost a week of not finding her.
Lucian is getting worried he may never find her and Leo is in distress, howling in hurt that they cannot find them.
He gets up early every morning and goes to bed late every night. He doesn’t want to give up on her, but where could she be?
Each day, he went deeper into the forest surrounding the pack. His parents tried to stop him every time, tried to reason with him that she was gone and he should forget about her, but he wouldn’t. He couldn’t.
She was his mate. That meant everything to him.
He ran through the woods, dodging trees and hopping across rivers in desperation. Leo had long since gone quiet, loosing hope of ever finding their mate.
By now, he was nearing the edge of the pack territory and he was running out of space to look for her.
Oliver had been helping during the day, but he had duties to attend to and a mate to take care of.
So Lucian was alone right now, running around through the forest and searching for Evelynn. It was only about 15 minutes to the border, so where was she?
“I’m going to kill them for taking our mate,” Lucian growled as he ran in his wolf form, “They’ll pay for this.”
Leo solemnly agreed with a whine before going quiet again.
He ran all the way to the border, searching the woods all around it, but to no avail. All he could see was trees. Although there was a small cabin just outside of the border on rogue lands.
Just out of curiosity and desperation, he stalked closer to it.
It was dainty and rundown. Wooden with a thatched roof and a few windows, a wooden door standing askew in the wall.
He tried to be quiet and cautious. These were rogue lands, there could be rogues anywhere, ready to attack, so he had to be on-guard.
When he reached the cabin, he sniffed the grounds but couldn’t detect anything. He raised onto his back paws against a window, peeking in to see a small figure on the floor inside.
All of a sudden, “MATE! It’s our mate! She’s there! We found her! It’s really our mate! She’s alive!” Leo yapped happily
His tail started wagging as he realised it was, in fact, Evelynn. He had found her.
Quickly, he shifted back to human form and tried the door but it wouldn’t budge. Of course it would be locked. So he shifted back into his wolf and charged at the door which crumbled under his weight, snapping and letting him inside.
When she realised someone was there, she began to panic, especially when she seen it was a large wolf.
But he pounced on Evelynn with excitement, licking her cheek with his wet tongue.
Vera, after days and days of sorrow and lost hope, howled in happiness inside Evelynn’s mind.
“He’s here! Our mate found us! I told you he would!” She yapped to the girl.
Her eyes filled with tears of joy at those words. Lucian was here. He really did come looking for her. Her mate didn’t forget about her.
“Lucian..” She whispered to him, fingers buried into the soft fur coating his chest.
His snout nuzzled against her cheek.
“I’m here, Evelynn. I found you. I’ll bring you home,” He whispered happily, climbing off of her so she could get up.
He whined at how tired, hungry and thirsty she looked.
Slowly, she managed to stand, keeping her hands in his fur to steady herself. She leaned down to press a soft kiss to his fluffy head, scratching his ears.
“Thank you for looking for me, Lucian,” She said softly with a smile.
Vera perked up in her mind, “He is our mate. He will always come looking for us. Leo says they were so worried and never stopped looking!”
“We would never stop looking for you, you are ours. Now, hop on, I’ll carry you back home,” He told her, lying down so she could climb on top of him.
With wobbly, unstable legs, she climbed on, sitting on his fluffy back, holding onto him tightly.
He stood up and ran out of the door, sprinting back to the pack house.
He had to make sure his mate was safe.
It was his responsibility; his duty.
