Taken

It was later that night. She sat atop her bed in her nightgown, thinking back over the events of the day. She met her mate. Her mate was Lucian. Lucian, the next-in-line Alpha. The one who tormented her for over a decade. Her thoughts were array. She didn’t know what to think or how to feel about the discovery. Since she was little, she dreamed about finding her mate, the one whom the Moon Goddess fated her to be with. It always sounded so magical to her, so surreal. But now that she has found her True Mate, and he was none other than Lucian Caelus, she was, honestly, scared; confused. His entire demeanour and personality changed this morning, when he told her she was his mate. His words were sweet and his touches were gentle, unlike anything he or anyone had ever been with her before. The promises that no-one would ever degrade her again, she no longer would have to pay off her parents debt with slave work, and that he would take care of her from now on. The idea sounded so wonderful and surreal to her ears, satiating Vera and the instincts inside of her, but could she really trust it? How could she trust Lucian after all he did to her? But it sounded like something she could get used to. ———————————— It’s safe to say that his parents weren’t pleased. He had walked into the family room where his parents were in a conversation. His mother suggested to his father another way to harass Evelynn, another way to make her miserable whilst she was still under their care. She turned to him, acknowledging his presence, “Lucian, dear, doesn’t that sound like a wonderful idea?” He growled at her, “No. Don’t speak about her like that ever again, mother.” Her brown eyes widen in surprise, staring at him in shock, mouth agape. His father wore a similar expression, with furrowed brows and a frown on his face. “Excuse me, son? What do you mean, ‘no’? What’s the matter?” Felix asked, voice rough and gravelly. “I don’t want you to touch her ever again,” Lucian growled, “You will not hurt her anymore. I will not let you.” Isabella spoke up, “Lucian! That is not how you speak to us, treat us with some respect; we are your parents!” She continued, “And what is up with you? You despise that girl just as much as we do, so why are you saying all of this?” He huffed, glaring at his mother, “That is irrelevant now, mother. Evelynn is my mate and you have no right to speak about her like that anymore. She is mine.” His words irrupted a gasp out of his mother. “What?! That slave b***h is your mate? What about Ava? You must reject her! She is too weak to be your mate and the next Luna, Ava is a much better fit!” Lucian snapped, snarling and growling at his mother’s words, “You DARE to speak of my mate like that! My mate will be the perfect Luna for this pack, Ava is just a w***e who wants the power of being Luna!” And with that, he stormed off, heading upstairs and to his room. He was angry his parents didn’t care he found his mate, they only wanted him to find a powerful girl to make his Luna, but he didn’t want that. ———————————— Word spread fairly quickly through the pack that Lucian had found his mate and that it turned out to be Evelynn. Ava and her parents immediately stormed to the pack house to confront them. The Alpha and Luna tried to soothe their frustration, sympathising with them. The Alpha told the girl’s parents that they were certain they could convince Lucian to drop the idea of his fated mate. It seemed to satiate their anger whilst Ava went to find Lucian herself. When she found him, she wasn’t happy. “You are supposed to love me, Lucian! I am supposed to become Luna, not that pathetic thing!” She hissed, arms crossed over her chest. He just glared back at her, “She is not pathetic, nor is she a thing! Evelynn is my mate and she will be Luna whether you like it or not! Now, get out of my room and get out of my house, I do not want you here” He growled. Whilst storming out, she hissed, “You will regret this Lucian, you’ll see!” ———————————— She should’ve known they wouldn’t leave her alone. Lucian wouldn’t stop them, they’re his parents; the Alpha and Luna. All she remembers was lying in her bed, dozing, ready to sleep, when she felt someone in her room, but she ignored it. It was probably just her sleepy imagination. Now, she realises she shouldn’t have ignored it, as she woke up, lying on the floor of a cold, dark cabin. Her mind raced with panic. Vera was howling, feeling as though she had failed to protect her human from being taken. “What.. What happened..” She asked Vera through their bond, eyes searching around the room to try and find a way out. The wolf whined, “It was the Luna and Alpha.. They took us from our bed and brought us here! I think they spoke of that girl our mate was with..” Evelynn sighed, standing up and looking around. It was dark, so very dark. She tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge. The windows were bolted shut and wouldn’t shatter. She attempted to shout for help, but she supposed no-one could hear her. Or maybe they did. Maybe they just didn’t care and ignored her cries for help. There was minimal food in the fridge and cupboard, so she had to limit what she ate to make it last. The water wasn’t very clean, running from the taps, but it would have to do. Eventually, she gave up trying to escape. It seemed impossible. She didn’t know how long it had been, but she knew it had already cycled through an entire day and was now nighttime again. All she could do was lay there on the ragged sheets of the bed, curl up and cry. She missed Lucian. His promises sounded so sweet and sincere that she had so badly hoped he would keep true to them, but she had little hope. It was Lucian after all. ———————————— When he woke up the day after his talk with Evelynn and the confrontation with his parents, he made his way down the stairs to the kitchen. Evelynn was always in the kitchen when he woke up. He opened the door to see the food splayed on the table, but no Evelynn in sight. Instead, there was another girl. He recognised her as she was also one of the servants who worked in the kitchen. Lucian supposed it was because he had told her she didn’t have to work anymore, that she was free to just live her life. “Have you seen Evelynn?” The man asked her, not really looking at her, mind too busy occupying his thoughts with his mate. She almost managed to hide her scowl, just barely slipping through her attempt, but he ignored it, just wanting to find her. “Uhm, no, I-I haven’t seen her since yesterday, sir..” She spoke quietly. After hearing that, he guessed she was just in her room. Maybe she was still sleeping since she did not have to get up early to work. He made his way back up to his floor and headed down the hall to the small room where his mate slept. “I’ll try and get her to move into my room with me,” He thought with a smile, knocking on the door. “Evelynn? Are you awake?” Lucian asked softly, standing with his hands together behind his back. When she didn’t answer, he tried again. And when she still didn’t answer, he sighed: “I’m coming in,” He announced, hand on the handle as he opens the door. He blinked when his eyes took in the room. She wasn’t there. “Then maybe she just decided to visit outside in the gardens,” Lucian muttered, brows furrowed slightly. Worry seeped through him but he pushed it back. Nothing could have happened to her. It’s fine. So, he closed the door behind him and went to his room and changed into some more comfortable, day-time clothes. When he walked into the living room, his parents were sat talking on the couch. He hoped they had calmed down from the dispute the previous day and were to be reasonable and accept his mate. “Mom, Dad. Have either of you seen Evelynn? I can’t find her,” He spoke with a frown. The two looked up at him, both of their demeanours were calm, and he just barely missed the twitch of his mother’s eye at the question. His father spoke up, “No, son. I have not seen that girl today.” His mother nodded in lieu of his answer. It brought a sigh from Lucian as he put on a pair of trainers and opened the door, walking outside with a “Thanks anyways,” closing the door behind him. He searched the entire grounds of the pack house and the gardens surrounding it, but to no avail. Now he was seriously worried. Leo whined in his mind, “I cannot feel her wolf! I do not know where she is, Lucian!” The wolf was in distress and it brought even more worry to him. Where could she have gone? When he started walking back to the house, mind in disarray and panic, he heard his parents talking quietly in the kitchen, speaking to someone on the phone. “Yes, Ava, that servant girl is gone. Lucian has not found her. He will simply forget about her come tomorrow so he will marry and mate with you. You will become our Luna, you are perfect to be my successor, His mother said with a grin. “What..?” He muttered under his breath, rage filling his mind as he heard Leo howling and snarling. His father nodded his agreement, adding his input of how he couldn’t think of a more perfect daughter-in-law to help lead his pack in the future. All Lucian saw was red.
