CHAPTER 12

1121 Words
At the Galloway residence, things were a little different than usual. The boisterous sounds of people enjoying their evening with a glass of wine could be heard even in all corners of the room. A woman who was so conspicuous in her jewels was laughing merrily, enjoying all the attention of the guests she had invited to celebrate the engagement between William Galloway and one of the daughters of another rich family. That woman was Delilah Galloway, an ambitious and cunning woman. She managed to win attention and her position among the wealthy as an influential socialite. Born the youngest daughter of the Ronan family, she used her business marriage to Immanuel Galloway to rise to the top. Meanwhile, by her side, the man who was the star of the party this time was William Galloway, her son and Immanuel. The slightly chubby man was smiling broadly, showing a row of clean white teeth, proud because he had succeeded in inviting one of the daughters of a rich family to become a partner in a family business marriage. As for the young woman he is holding, she is Ivone Scholher, the only daughter of the Scholher family, one of the families who have collaborated with the Galloway company for the past few years. Of course she didn't want this marriage, but since her father forced her, she had no other reason to refuse. At first she was very happy when her parents said they wanted to set her up with the son of the Galloway family. She thought the man in question was Alexander Galloway, but apparently that hope was just a memory. In fact, she had hoped to be set up with the youngest son of the Galloway family, considering that she had had feelings for Alexander for a long time, when they were still studying at the same university. Now, hope has been dashed. She officially became the fiancé of William Galloway, a fat and arrogant man. She hated to say it, but the man really disgusted her—she thought. “Oh my… you guys are such a match,” said her father—Frederick Scholher. Hearing that, Ivone couldn't help but snort in annoyance, but tried not to show her distaste for his father's words. However, William felt something else, the man enjoyed it so much, he didn't even hesitate to kiss the back of Ivone's hand gently. "Thank you, Father-in-law." "You don't need to worry, Mr. Frederick, your daughter's happiness is guaranteed when she becomes part of the Galloway family. What's more, she is the future Mistress of this family," Delilah said as she embraced her future daughter-in-law with tenderness. "I trust you, Mrs Delilah." Their mouths might form a smile at each other, but, of course, neither of them really trusted each other. There is only one interest in the relationship they agree on: future gains. From where he was sitting, Immanuel saw all the skits and snorted in annoyance. His eldest son's engagement ceremony was out of his control. After returning from the company, he had seen everything prepared secretly by his wife. Some guests had also arrived. Of course, he couldn't have anticipated that. Delilah moved faster than he thought, the sly woman moved when he was messing with the bad image of his son—Alexander that started to spread because of Delilah and William's actions. This time he admitted that he had already lost by one move, but he would make sure not to lose a second time. He faintly heard the whispers of guests who were not pleasant. They question the whereabouts of Alexander, who is not there. For those who don't know about his family's problems, they will immediately speculate negatively on Alexander, especially lately, his image is not good. Immanuel understood what Delilah's plan meant now. Apart from avoiding distractions from him, the woman was also planning to further damage Alexander's image by taking advantage of this secretly planned engagement event. William took his fiancée over to Immanuel, then he smiled a big smile. “Father… please give us blessings for this newly formed relationship.” Immanuel raised his wine glass high. "I bless you." William smiled with satisfaction, and so did Delilah. "Thank you dad." "Yes." The music sounded melodious, the guests began to dance with their partners, including William and Ivone, who became the stars of tonight's party. As for Immanuel and Delilah, they just sat side by side without speaking a single word. In front of all of them, of course, the two of them would act like a harmonious couple in general, but underneath it all, they both put their respective weapons in their hands to attack each other at the appointed time. "Can we talk?" asked Immanuel, without even looking at his wife. "What do you want to talk about, my husband?" "I think you know what I want to talk about," he hissed. Delilah smiled slyly. From a distance, he saw a guest had just arrived. "Alright, let's talk in the room. Give me 15 minutes to greet Master Long first.” "Hurry up." The man rose from his place and left the party. However, before he really went far, he turned back to Delilah with a sharp gaze, while the woman could only reply with a mocking smile. “Madam, where is Mister Immanuel?” asked her guest, who had just arrived. “A-ah… my husband isn't feeling well, so he apologizes for not being able to welcome all the guests tonight, including you.” “Oh my… I hope Mister Immanuel gets well soon.” "Thank you, Mr Long." Meanwhile, in his room, Immanuel was waiting anxiously. What Delilah did was outrageous, she wasn't going to let it go tonight. He tries to reach Alexander, but the man doesn't even answer his phone calls. "Damn it!" he grumbled. He put the phone back in his pocket, then he leaned back on the comfortable plush sofa. Sometimes he felt so tired that he felt like quitting. However, there was Alexander to fight for, or the man would lose everything that rightfully belonged to him. He took out his photo, and in it was Elise Franchis, the woman he loved so much—the mother of Alexander Galloway. That woman cannot be replaced by anyone, therefore she also stays with Delilah because Alexander has rights that must be fought for. “Lise… I'm tired… can't you come pick me up too?” he whispered as he kissed the photo gently. Unbeknownst to him in the doorway, Delilah was looking at him with a burning jealousy in her chest. If you want to follow her, then I will grant it— Delilah thought.
