CHAPTER 3
Harry’s parents got him admission into one of the prestigious universities abroad, on one of the evenings, his father came back from the office and with a cheerful look handed over an envelope to Harry. He had wanted it to be a surprise to him and it was just that. Harry did not understand what was happening, little did he know that what he thought was just a threat had now become a reality. He would be traveling abroad to study. He opened the envelope and it was the documents for his admission into the university abroad for further study. It was a missed feeling for him because he could not bear the thought and pains of not being around Evelyn, at the same time he thought it would not be a bad idea anyway if he could just walk away from his trouble so he could heal from the heartbreak. If he actually can heal. Harry sat on the couch for several minutes confused and so many thoughts ran through his head.
As the date of his departure drew close, his pains grew because he was going to leave the only girl he had ever loved, yes Harry was a lady’s man but he was decent and did not take advantage of his looks. He has not given love any chance, at least not until when he and Evelyn started dating. A day before his departure, he drove to Evelyn’s house, he pulled over at her compound to have a few words with her, and he spoke about how he has to do his parents' wish to further his education abroad. It was an evening filled with emotions for the two of them because they both loved each other so much and could not bear the thought of going their separate ways, this is so, most especially for Harry who never loved the word goodbye because he felt it was too final. Perhaps this was one of the reasons he never had a girlfriend.
Evelyn stayed back in the country to finish up her degree in the college. All through her college days she determined not to give love a second chance. She thought, after all, love had not been fair to her. She got advances from guys, but she had to turned them down. Helen, her friend tried to make her see the reasons, but her mind was already made up, maybe it would take God's intervention before she could change her mind.
A few years down the line, Evelyn had graduated and finished the mandatory one-year national service. She got a job in one of the oil companies in town. She had also established herself in business, she was currently the CEO of Eve’s Touch. Eve’s Touch was a very big fashion empire, it had a clothing line that was popular in town and some of its products were exported outside the country. Evelyn was very successful.
On a fateful Sunday morning, she had gone for one of their Sunday services, as she walked on the red rug laid in the walk-way of the church auditorium, clad in a red fitted medium-length gown with a heeled shoe to match, her hair neatly styled and her neck adorned with expensive gold chain and a clutch bag in her hand, she turned heads. Evelyn’s personality attracts attention even when she's not searching for one, She is the most astonishing girl you will ever meet, she has these curves of softness, easy to talk to, and is fun to be around. She sat elegantly on the second row while the service was going on, everyone admired her. After the church service, while Evelyn was on her way to her car which had been parked in the car park, she heard a voice behind calling her name, it was Raymond, she knew Raymond in the church as the music director, though she had not been so close to know his personal life anyways. She stopped and Raymond walked up to her.
Raymond was a young man in his late twenties. Unlike Harry, Raymond is dark in complexion and has deep brown eyes and broad shoulders which could make a lady fall for him any day coupled with the fact that he sings very well he gets attention from ladies at least so much so that they flock around him. He has an average height. He attends the same church as Evelyn. Raymond and Evelyn exchanged pleasantries he requested to talk to Evelyn privately. At first, Evelyn was resistant, she never wanted anything that would make her so intimate with the opposite gender, not after her sudden break-up with Harry. She had not gotten over the heartbreak of Harry despite being a little long, so she always didn’t like the idea of a guy inviting her for any discussion, at least not when it was private. She could guess what Raymond wanted to talk to her about. After much persuasion, and the fact that she needed to get rid of the thought of the heartbreak she agreed to see him. She thought that giving love another chance would not be a bad idea. She requested a time and a place to see him. Raymond invited her to his place. Even though she was a busy person, because she always had a tight schedule, she made time to go see him.
On the day Evelyn visited him at his house, she pulled over at his gate and stared at the unfamiliar house, her heart racing. She was not so sure if she was ready for this. Raymond told Evelyn how much she loved her. At first, she was confused, she didn’t know if she was to take more time to heal from the heartbreak with Harry, she sought counseling from her mother if it was ok to go on to a new relationship, her mother encouraged her and after back and forth, the two of them started dating. Little did she know that it was the beginning of her storming life.
