CHAPTER 14I DON’T know how much of what finally turned out to be true Lieutenant Kelly knew at this point. I’ve accused him since of pretending to know a whole lot more than he really did. He assumes, on such an occasion, an expression that is what I imagine a composite photograph of Mona Lisa and the Sphinx would have, and says something about knowing how and when to take the jumps.
