BLOOD DOESN'T LIE A Story of Blood, Betrayal and Destiny By: walidah_hm Chapter 5 – A Promise She Could Not Keep The red light above the labour room remained on. Every second felt like an hour. Kumar paced the hallway, his hands trembling. Pooja sat on a nearby chair, whispering silent prayers. "Ya Allah... protect her." The doors suddenly opened. A nurse stepped out. "Mr. Kumar Karna?" Kumar rushed toward her. "Yes! How is my wife?" The nurse smiled gently. "Congratulations." "You have a healthy baby boy." For a moment... Kumar forgot how to breathe. "A... a boy?" The nurse nodded. "Both mother and baby are doing well." Relief washed over him. Tears filled his eyes. "Can I see them?" "Give us a few more minutes." "We're getting the baby cleaned and settled." Kumar smiled through his tears. "Thank you..." "Thank you so much." The nurse disappeared inside again. Pooja immediately hugged Kumar. "You have a son!" Kumar laughed through his tears. "A son..." "I have a son." Inside the labour room... Naina lay weakly on the hospital bed. Her face was pale, and exhaustion showed in her eyes. A nurse carefully placed the tiny baby in her arms. The little boy yawned softly before wrapping his tiny fingers around hers. Naina's eyes filled with tears. "My son..." She kissed his forehead gently. "So tiny..." "So beautiful..." The doctor smiled. "He's healthy." "You should be proud." Naina whispered, "Alhamdulillah." She looked down at the baby's peaceful face. "We'll call you..." A faint smile appeared on her lips. "Vishu." The baby's tiny fingers tightened around hers. Naina laughed softly. "I think he likes his name." Outside... Mahesh, Vaani, Raj, Dhuraya, and Vijay arrived at the hospital. Mahesh walked quickly toward Kumar. "How is she?" Kumar smiled through his tears. "It's a boy." Everyone smiled. Dhuraya raised her hands thankfully. "Thank God." Vaani hugged Pooja. "I'm so happy for her." Even Mahesh smiled warmly. "Another child to bless this family." Only Vijay remained quiet. Watching. Thinking. His eyes briefly moved toward the labour room doors. A little while later... The doctor stepped out again. This time... His smile had disappeared. "Mr. Kumar..." Kumar's heart skipped. "Yes?" "I'm afraid there's a problem." The hallway fell silent. "What happened?" The doctor took a breath. "Your wife has developed a serious complication." "We're doing everything we can." "But her condition is critical." Kumar felt the world tilt beneath him. "No..." The doctor looked at him with sympathy. "Please pray." Without another word... He hurried back inside. The doors closed again. Pooja covered her mouth. "No..." Mahesh placed a steady hand on Kumar's shoulder. "She'll fight." Kumar stared at the closed doors. "She promised me..." "She promised we'd raise our child together." His voice broke. Inside the room... Doctors and nurses moved quickly around Naina. She slowly opened her eyes. "Doctor..." "I... I want to see my husband." The doctor hesitated. Then nodded. "Bring him." Moments later... Kumar entered the room. The sight of Naina broke his heart. She looked exhausted. But when she saw him... She smiled. "You came." Kumar rushed to her side. "Don't talk." "You're going to be alright." Naina slowly shook her head. "I know..." Kumar gripped her hand tightly. "No." "Don't say that." Tears slipped from her eyes. "Our son..." She looked toward the tiny crib beside her. "Take care of him." "You will." Kumar said firmly. "We both will." She smiled sadly. "I wish..." "I could watch him grow." "You will." "You'll teach him to walk." "You'll tell him stories." "You'll see him go to school." Kumar's voice cracked with every word. Naina gently touched his cheek. "If..." "If Allah calls me..." "Promise me something." Kumar closed his eyes. "Don't ask me that." "Please..." She whispered, "Promise me..." "You'll never let Vishu feel alone." Tears streamed down Kumar's face. "I promise." She smiled. "And..." Her eyes moved toward Pooja, who had quietly entered the room. "Pooja..." Pooja hurried closer. "I'm here." Naina reached for her hand. "If one day..." "My son cries for his mother..." "Please..." "Love him a little." Pooja's eyes filled with tears. "Don't speak like this." "You're coming home with us." Naina smiled softly. "I know your heart." "You'll never let him feel unloved." Pooja nodded through her tears. "I swear." "I'll love him like my own." A peaceful smile spread across Naina's face. She looked once more at her baby. Then at Kumar. Then toward the ceiling. Her lips moved silently. "Alhamdulillah..." For a moment... Everything became still. The monitor beside her continued its steady rhythm. Then... The sound changed. The doctors immediately moved closer. Kumar held Naina's hand tightly. "Naina..." But she no longer responded. The doctor checked her carefully. A heavy silence filled the room. Finally... He slowly lowered his head. "I'm sorry." Kumar stood motionless. Still holding her hand. As if refusing to believe what he had just heard. Pooja cried quietly beside him. Outside the room... Mahesh closed his eyes in sorrow. Vaani began to weep. Dhuraya whispered a prayer with trembling lips. Even Vijay, who had carried a terrible secret for two years, lowered his head. A newborn baby's cry echoed through the hospital. It was the first sound of Vishu's life. And in that same moment... His mother was gone. To Be Continued... 🩸💔
