MIRA’S POV
I stared at the blade in complete shock, but instead of driving the sharp point through my chest, Asher flipped the weapon around and extended handle to me.
The weight of the sword nearly dragged my arm straight to the ground. I tried my best to tighten my grip on the weapon but because of the nerves that were still going through me, my hand were slick with sweat and making it difficult.
"Hold it properly," Asher said then he moved back and picked up an identical sword we are going.
"We are going to spar, Mira. Show me what you can do." He started to move towards me.
I looked at him, my heart hammering wildly against my ribs. I knew with absolute certainty that I could not beat him in a physical fight.
He was a six-foot-four giant with the reputation of the strongest wolf alive, and I was just a wolfless omega with strength that was just a little bit above human.
I am convinced he is only doing this to humiliate me before he finally finishes me off. He wants to watch me struggle and fail for his own sick amusement.
A sudden, fierce spark of desperation ignited deep within my chest. If he was going to execute me anyway, this training room was the only real chance I would ever get to save my own life. I had to kill him first.
I took a deep, ragged breath and tightened my stance on the smooth stone floor. I gripped the leather hilt with both hands, ignoring the sharp ache in my collarbone.
“You can do this. Just go for it.” I encouraged myself silently, hardening my resolve.
If I was going to die in this room today, I might as well make sure I left a permanent mark on his arrogant face. I would make him bleed before he took my life.
Better still I’d kill him even though he’d probably take me down with him.
I went straight on the offense, leaping forward with every ounce of strength in my body. I lunged toward his right side, swinging sword with a fierce, desperate scream.
Asher did not look surprised at all. He simply raised his own blade, blocking my strike. The impact of his sword on mine made a loud sound that sent vibrations up my hand.
The impact rattled my teeth, but I did not stop. I spun around quickly, using all my efforts to target his visible weak points.
Unfortunately there was none and I was barely holing on.
I aimed a sharp thrust at his exposed throat, then immediately dropped low to slice at the back of his knees. I was fighting with everything I had, trying to finish him off quickly before his superior speed could get to me.
But that wasn’t good enough because it seemed he could see each of my attacks before they came and dodge them accordingly.
My breath came in short, burning gasps as I moved across the floorboards.
Asher moved with effortless grace, matching every single one of my desperate strikes with tiny, precise movements of his weapon.
A slow, dark smirk spread across his face, and his golden-hazel eyes glinted with blatant amusement as though he clearly saw the pure hatred in my eyes and he was thoroughly entertained by my intense enthusiasm to murder him.
But my deadly plans were entirely futile.
He wasn’t even sweating or looking like he was engaged in hard work while I was panting and drenched like a wet rat.
No matter how fast I swung or how hard I tried to catch him off guard, he blocked each attack with a single hand.
After a few minutes of my quick assault, the amusement in his golden eyes began to fade, replaced by a cold scowl.
He easily stepped inside my guard, slammed the flat of his blade against my sword, and ripped the weapon completely out of my hands. The sword clattered loudly against the wall.
He looked at me with a disapproving gaze like he just realized exactly how easy it would be it to kill me and he was no longer enjoying the game of who would kill whom first because the answer was already very clear.
"Is this the absolute best you can do?" Asher demanded, his deep voice dropping into a harsh, disappointed growl. He loomed over me, his chest heaving slightly as his suffocating alpha aura expanded, trapping the remaining air in my throat.
"Your movements are completely sloppy, Mira. You have no speed, and you have no real power behind your weight."
“You are so weak.” He said like my mere existence disgusted him so much.
I stood before him completely weaponless, my chest heaving violently as I clutched my bruised hands against my stomach. My linen dress was soaked with sweat, and my legs were trembling so hard I could barely stand.
The realization of my own complete helplessness turned my fear into a bitter, venomous rage.
"Then just kill me!" I screamed back at him, my voice echoing off the weapon filled walls.
"Go ahead and finish it, you arrogant monster! I don't have the strength to fight your stupid royal pack, and I never will. Stop playing these pathetic mind games with me and do your worst!"
Asher’s eyes narrowed into slits, his golden eyes shifted into glowing amber as his wolf surfaced to the front of his mind.
I had angered his wolf now.
He took a long, menacing step forward, his hand clenching into a tight fist at his side. The pressure of his aura was ten times louder now and the pressure felt like a physical weight crushing my shoulders.
I barred my neck but at the same time it was like that wasn’t enough.
"Do not test my patience, little wolf," he hissed, his face inches from mine.
"Stop calling me that!" I spat right back, glaring into his amber eyes with all the venom I could muster.
"I am nothing to you. So why don't you just snap my neck and get this over with?"
He reached out, his large hand wrapping firmly around the soft skin of my throat, pinning me completely against the rack
I gasped for air, staring up at his furious face, waiting for the final squeeze that would end my life.
