Rebecca waited until Anna had left the hut and shut the door after her before she turned to her brother. “Hello, brother,” Rebecca greeted, her gaze traveling past him to the plates on the table.
Jones's gaze followed his sister’s to the table. “Thanks for the food, the house, everything,” he said.
A faint smile tinting her lips, Rebecca walked to the stool by the table, and she sat. “You’re welcome,” she said.
“I sense there’s something you want to tell me. What is it?” he said.
“She has been reborn,” Rebecca said.
Jones’s eyes widened. “Anna?” he blurted.
Rebecca slowly shook her head. “Not Anna,” she said.
At her response, he shut his eyes and heaved a deep sigh. “Who then?” he asked, caring less of whosoever it was, as long as it wasn’t his Anna.
