Chapter Thirteen 10:00 a.m. Christy exits the administration building, timing perfect. He, soon to be she, appears homeless, every possession stuffed in a suitcase and two duffle bags. Laboring greatly, somehow the lithe form manages to move about, though one bag is more dragged then carried. I toot the horn, exit the car and open the trunk. Christy obediently approaches both happy and sad. His homeless life has ended, no longer to face the unknown. Her new life as houseboy/maid is beginning, in his mind perhaps the unknown a better choice. I realize I must quickly disavow him/her of any thoughts of reneging. Firmness, I tell myself, do not open a door for him to step through. So I wordlessly point into the open trunk and Christy tosses in that which he will not see again... for many
