"He’s the CEO? I thought he would be some old man. To think that he is the very CEO I’ve been dreaming about, and he's so young too. But that’s even better; a handsome man with a beautiful woman is a perfect match. I’ll definitely make you fall for me, Alice. I can already picture my life as the CEO's wife, living luxuriously in gold and silver—it’s delightful to even think about it. The role of the CEO's wife is destined to be mine, Alice, and I'm the only one who fits it perfectly."
“I’ve got things to do, Richard,” she said and quickly left.
“I need all of Warner Group’s files from the past year within three days, or you’re out,” he stated icily before stepping into his office.
“All the data from a whole year, in just three days? How is that even feasible?” Alice muttered, discontented.
Was she about to give up her dream of becoming the CEO's wife before she even started? No, she wouldn’t concede.
Alice stared at the CEO's office door, her gaze intensely focused.
Before meeting Richard, she was all fired up; now after meeting him, her resolve seemed to sway slightly.
"Cut out all the distractions. The most important thing now is to excel at my job and not let the youngsters think less of me," she reassured herself, shaking her head as if to toss out the chaotic thoughts. What was once a dejected spirit was now charged with determination.
Maybe that man hadn't recognized her? Perhaps he had already forgotten her? It had been seven years, after all, long enough for memories to fade.
"All of last year’s data, right?" If she couldn’t manage this simple task, how could she justify staying on, let alone not being underestimated by the youngsters? She must complete this task, so off to the archives she went.
With that thought, Amelia sprang into action.
In the vice president's office.
"Evelyn, are you free tonight? I’d like to take you out for dinner," Todd said, striking what he believed to be a very handsome pose, as he addressed the striking beauty diligently working at her desk.
Her focused expression was absolutely beautiful.
"Todd, has anyone ever told you you’re annoying?" Evelyn asked, looking up from her documents, her tone earnest.
"Nope! I’ve only ever been told how handsome I am. So, did I charm you?" He rubbed his chin and blinked, his tone serious, seemingly sincere.
"Do you really want to know?" She stood up, approached him, and got close to his face, her eyes playfully twinkling.
"Yes."
Slowly, she moved her face closer.
Her soft red lips were incredibly enticing.
"Well, it makes me want to hit someone."
She moved quickly, her hand striking his presumptuous face, followed by a kick to his stomach.
Three minutes later, Evelyn adjusted the hair on her forehead and exited the office.
At that moment, the man who had been struck, now nearly foaming at the mouth, lay on the floor, his eyes shining with excitement.
Such a formidable woman, truly deserving of Todd’s attention.
(It’s certain, this man has a penchant for being on the receiving end of pain. Author's note:)
Amelia roamed the corridors like a lost soul, utterly confused. Following her, Brittany shook her head, exasperated.
"Boss, can't your mom be a bit sharper? If she’s lost, why doesn’t she just ask someone?"
It's hard to believe such a clueless mother could have produced genius triplets.
While Brittany was rubbing her forehead in bafflement, a loud 'bang' echoed.
Amelia touched her forehead, wincing. "Ouch."
"Who’s there? Who the heck is asking for trouble by bumping into me?"
After tumbling to the ground, Amelia quickly stood up, ignoring the throbbing pain in her hip, and began apologizing profusely, "Sorry, sorry, sorry..."
"Stop, stop, stop," Evelyn interrupted after saying 'stop' three times, her gaze falling on the woman before her, dressed so outdated, her initial irritation instantly fading.
Isn’t this the woman the boss emphasized to take special care of?
"I’m truly sorry." It's just that this place is so huge; I got lost trying to find the archives.
Silence followed. Is it fun to apologize so much? Why say it so many times?
"Vice President Evelyn, are you alright?" Amelia asked, concern peering through her large glasses.
I hope I don’t get fired on my first day; I'd never live it down in front of the kids.
"I’m fine. What are you doing here?"
Surely you’re not just wandering around?
"I'm trying to find the archives."
Please don’t get fired. Please don’t get fired.
Amelia repeated her silent prayers.
"Looking for the archives? You’re utterly lost!" Finding the restroom instead of the archives? You must be a real airhead.
"The archives are not this way?" Amelia blinked behind her large glasses.
"You didn’t know? This is the restroom," Evelyn said, incredulously.
So she is clueless! No wonder the boss told us to treat her specially! Now I understand.
A lightbulb went off in her head.
"No one told me." It's her first day, after all.
A hint of dejection crept into her voice.
"Didn’t anyone introduce you to the place?" Evelyn queried.
But as she assessed Amelia's appearance, she somewhat understood why no one had volunteered to show her around.
"No."
"The archives are on the seventh floor. Come with me."
I must have been mistaken. Since she's under the boss's special instructions, I must ensure there are no errors.
Moments later, at the archives on the seventh floor.
"Here we are."
Evelyn indicated the door ahead.
"Thank you, Vice President Evelyn." Relief washed over her as she finally found her destination.
"Please, just call me Evelyn; ‘Vice President Evelyn’ sounds awful."
Watching Amelia’s beaming face, Evelyn momentarily lost her train of thought.
She does look quite appealing when she smiles.
Snapping back to reality, she felt annoyed thinking, 'Vice President Evelyn, Vice President Evelyn,' a constant reminder that she ranks below that insufferable Todd, which was quite irritating.
"Yes, Evelyn."
It felt like the beginning of a new friendship.
