Chapter4

I got ready for my interview and walked out of my room meeting Vincent in the kitchen making breakfast. “Why don't you move your things here so that it can be noted you now stay here” I said to him, rolling my eyes.

“I actually never thought of that, maybe I should do that,” he replied.

“I'm kidding,” I said.

“i'm not” he replied

“How about I give you a ride to work today?” Vincent asked after we were done with breakfast

“No Vincent, that won't be necessary” I declined

“Why? It won't be a problem for any of us since my company is two blocks away from where you work” he offered

“Vincent, I was fired and I'm going for a job interview at Ace hardware corporation so don't bother” I closed

“Okay fine I'm giving you a ride” he concluded.

“Why didn't you mention that you were fired Akira, at least I would have let you work in my company till you got another job” he complained

“I know you hate being a burden Akira, but you should know by now that you can and would never be a burden to me so please don't keep things like this from me okay?” He requested

“Okay” I agreed. The rest of the ride was spent in silence as he didn't want to provoke me.

I got to the company, went to the venue of the interview and met 3 others waiting to be interviewed. I sat with them feeling really nervous because if I don't get this job I'll have to wait again for God knows how long to secure another interview as I had to cancel the other offers since they all clashed in one day. Making a mental note that I must pass the interview, I took 3 deep breaths and calmed myself down.

Next! We heard the caller from inside the interview office yell, two down two to go. The third person I met stood up and walked in as she was next. My anxiety grew higher as I sat there waiting for my turn. Feeling pressed, I decided to use the restroom before it was my turn. Next! I heard the caller yell again and that was it, I couldn't use the restroom so I had to walk in the interview office.

“Please introduce yourself,” the man behind the desk instructed. He seemed calm but strict. Deciding to play my A card as my brother's college tuition fee was on the line, I sat confidently on my seat and began my introduction.

“I am Akira Payton, a college graduate and a well educated individual of 5 different languages. I have experience of working as a secretary where I was the secretary to a managing director at Virgo technology. I hope to be very useful in Ace hardware corporation when I begin my job. I said putting on a bright smile.

The interviewer stared at me for a minute then asked “in your CV it was stated that you worked at Virgo technology for 4 years. Why were you fired?”

Maintaining my composure I searched my head for the right answer to give because even I, didn't know the main reason I got fired, “ A mistake was made by a staff member which I corrected but didn't inform the director where he later found out” I said.

He stared at me for another minute then asked again “ why did you correct the mistake the staff made?”

“If I didn't do that, that staff would have been fired that day” I responded

“So you decided to sacrifice yourself?” He asked

“I didn't sacrifice myself, I just did what I felt was right even when I knew the consequence” I responded. Was this how long the other interviews were!?

“Miss Akira, I guess this interview will end here today, you may exit the office and wait for our feedback” the interviewer said

And I stood up and left his office.

Deciding I needed to treat myself to lunch, I headed to a restaurant. Taking my seat at the left end I made myself comfortable while enjoying the view as it was a glass wall facing a field of flowers.

“Good evening ma'am, what can I offer you?” a soft female voice asked.

Turning to face her, I scanned through the menu again and placed my order.

After my lunch I decided to call Mia and update her on the interview. We had a long talk and she encouraged me that I would definitely get the Job. We cracked jokes for a few more minutes then she informed me that she had to go and would come over after work.

I got home, took a shower and laid on my bed scrolling through i********:. Most times I wish to live like the girls I see on social media but then I remind myself that most of it is fake. It's better to live a low normal life than to live a fake classy one.

My thoughts broke when Mia badged into my room.

“I know you practically own this room but can you learn to knock before entering? What if I was with someone doing something” I asked her

“Akira please don't even go there. We both know that what you just said would never happen as long as you are living like this so don't deceive yourself my darling” she mocked and we both laughed.

We hung out in my room for a while after she took a shower and changed into my clothes. we decided to watch Netflix.

I brought out my laptop and opened it then noticed a new mail.

I opened the mail and read it out “Dear Akira we have gone through your CV and your performance in the interview and we would like to inform you that you passed. You have been given the job as the secretary to the CEO. You are expected to resume in the next two days, congratul

ations.” We looked at each other and screamed with joy.
