Karafa, disguised as a woman, and Hamnet were walking from the square where the dirigible disappeared an hour ago. The chairman, hiding his beard beneath a gaudy kerchief, looked at his relative with anticipation.
“Are you going to stay silent for much longer? Did you see anything or not?”
“I closed my eyes,” Hamnet wasn’t looking anywhere but at his sandals. “Don’t you remember what they used to say about that poor fellow?”
“Coward!” the bearded man turned away contemptuously.
