Over the next couple of weeks, I spent my time in one-on-one meetings with pack members that were involved in Ruston’s plan. They mostly told me the same thing. That they felt left out by the fact that we had guards following them, and that he made promises I knew for a fact he couldn’t keep. Once they found out what the truth was, they were pretty shocked and apologized for their behaviour.
It was a horrific misunderstanding I created the moment I thought I was doing the right thing by letting Ruston go free. Some people just weren’t capable of being truthful, and Ruston was one of them. He wanted everything that wasn’t his, and from the conversations I had with the people he influenced it became clear that he told them it was his.
