Kael's POV
The forest erupted into chaos.
Howls echoed from every direction, growing louder with each passing second. My warriors instantly formed a defensive circle around Selene, Lucien, and me.
I inhaled deeply.
Rogue wolves.
At least a hundred.
No...
Closer to two hundred.
This wasn't a random attack. Rogues rarely gathered in large numbers because they constantly fought among themselves for dominance. Someone had united them.
Someone wanted my mate.
"Form a perimeter!" I commanded.
Every warrior obeyed without hesitation.
Damon shifted into his massive gray wolf, taking position on my right. Ethan stood on my left, his claws already extended.
My wolf growled impatiently.
**Protect her.**
That was my only priority.
I looked at Selene. She stood frozen, her face pale as she watched my warriors prepare for battle.
She didn't belong in the middle of a war she didn't even understand.
I stepped toward her.
"Listen to me carefully."
She looked up at me with frightened blue eyes.
"No matter what happens next, stay behind me."
Before she could answer, Lucien moved to her other side.
"I disagree."
My jaw tightened.
He folded his arms, completely calm despite the approaching danger.
"If they attack from every direction, she'll be trapped between wolves. She'll have a better chance if she stays with me."
A low growl escaped my throat.
"My pack knows how to protect her."
"And I know how to keep humans alive."
The tension between us became suffocating.
Neither of us was willing to back down.
Then...
The first rogue appeared.
A huge black wolf burst through the trees, followed by dozens more.
Golden eyes glowed beneath the moonlight.
Foam dripped from their jaws.
These wolves weren't simply hungry.
They looked...
Controlled.
As though someone had stolen their minds.
"Attack!" Damon roared.
The clearing exploded into violence.

Selene's POV
I couldn't move.
Everything happened too fast.
One moment everyone was arguing over where I should stand.
The next...
The forest became a battlefield.
Massive wolves crashed into one another with terrifying force.
Growls.
Snarls.
The sound of claws tearing through flesh.
I had never seen anything so horrifying.
A rogue lunged toward me.
Before I could scream, Kael appeared out of nowhere.
He caught the wolf by its throat and threw it several feet into a tree.
The impact shook the ground.
My eyes widened.
No human could do that.
Another rogue came from behind.
Lucien moved so quickly I barely saw him.
His hand wrapped around the rogue's neck.
A loud crack echoed through the clearing.
The wolf collapsed instantly.
I stared at him.
He looked completely unfazed.
"Stay close," Lucien said.
I nodded weakly.
For the first time in my life, I understood that monsters truly existed.
But strangely...
The ones protecting me felt less frightening than the ones trying to kill me.
A frightened cry caught my attention.
One of Kael's warriors had been surrounded.
Three rogues attacked him at once.
Without thinking, I took a step forward.
"No!"
Kael's voice thundered across the battlefield.
I froze.
His silver eyes met mine.
There wasn't anger in them.
Only fear.
Fear...
For me.
Why?
He barely knew me.

Kael's POV
She almost ran into the fight.
My heart nearly stopped.
Didn't she realize one bite from a rogue could kill her?
I fought my way toward her, throwing another wolf aside.
Something wasn't right.
The rogues weren't trying to kill my warriors.
Whenever they had an opening...
They ignored everyone else.
Their eyes remained fixed on Selene.
"They're targeting her!" Ethan shouted.
"I know!"
Another wave rushed toward us.
Lucien stood beside Selene without hesitation.
For a brief moment, our eyes met.
Neither of us spoke.
We simply understood.
Protect her first.
Fight each other later.
It was an uneasy alliance neither of us wanted.
Yet neither of us had a choice.
Suddenly, every rogue stopped moving.
The clearing fell silent.
Even the wounded wolves froze.
A figure stepped out from the darkness, dressed in a long hooded cloak.
Its face remained hidden.
A deep voice echoed through the forest.
"So..."
"The Supreme Alpha found his mate after all."
My warriors growled.
The stranger chuckled.
"Keep the girl."
"We'll be seeing her again very soon."
Before anyone could react, the cloaked figure disappeared into the darkness.
At the exact same moment, every remaining rogue retreated into the forest as if responding to a single command.
Silence returned.
Only the sounds of heavy breathing and injured warriors remained.
Damon walked toward me, blood staining his shirt.
"This wasn't a normal rogue attack."
"I know."
My eyes drifted to Selene.
She was trembling, staring into the dark forest where the mysterious figure had vanished.
Whoever had sent those rogues knew exactly who she was.
But why?
That was the question I intended to answer before anyone else reached her.
