Chapter Fourteen

705 Words
The street was dark for the most part, only being illuminated by the occasional orange streetlight. My deep breaths fogged the air, and my throat burned with thirst. I was about to go insane. I needed blood. I knew that out of pure desperation, I'd drink from the next human I saw, regardless of blood type. Inell had only been gone for a few months, two, three at the most, and I was already going mad from hunger. Sage's body couldn't handle the massive amounts of blood loss like Inell's could, and I couldn't survive off of dead man's blood forever. Rarely ever did I venture into human civilizations, but tonight was an exception. I was hunting, a social taboo amongst many vampires. Humans were only suppose to fall prey to a vampire if they were a slave, but what did I care? I work in a morgue and drink the blood of dead people. I'm pretty sure no one has high expectations of me. Soon enough, I saw a young girl, no older than eleven or twelve, walking down the street. She should've know better than to wander the streets alone at night. There are more things to worry about than just vampires. My instincts kicked in. Eyes red and fangs extended, I used my vampire speed and rushed over to her. She fell to the ground with a yelp and me on top of her. The look on her face at first was of confusion, and then of terror. "P-Please don't do this," she cried. "Please let me go-" I paralyzed her vocal cords using my telekinesis. I didn't need this girl screaming while I'm feeding. That would draw too much attention. Once she was silenced, I sunk my fangs into her neck. The sweet taste of warm blood flowed into my mouth and down my throat, quenching my thirst. I just kept drinking. Suddenly, I felt the girl's heart stop. I pulled back. The girl's body laid lifeless on the sidewalk. I didn't mean to kill her, I really didn't. I just got carried away. Wiping the blood from my face, I started walking away. It might have been dishonorable to feed off of a non-slave human, but it was illegal to kill one. I ran home, leaving the girl's body out in the cold night. My thirst was gone, and she'd be found by morning. When I arrived home, Sage was already asleep, so I didn't bother calling her to my room. I went into the bathroom and looked into the mirror and ran my hand through my black hair. I was crazy. I needed Inell back. The bond I had told her I had with her was real. I had even marked her. Considering that not only was I still experiencing our connection, but also the fact that her body had never arrived at the morgue, I had concluded that she was probably still alive. But how? She was practically dead when I found her. Then I remembered Chanyeol. He must have changed her. That bastard. I told him to let her die because I knew that the bond would be severed, but Chanyeol isn't one to let someone die if he can help it. How did it take me two months to realize that? I had no way of finding Chanyeol to ask him where Inell was. He was in exile for dishonoring his family, and no one but him and his family knew where he was. He just so happened to be out when Sehun attacked Inell, and he notified me. I let out a frustrated groan and leaned my head back. I knew Chanyeol was always looking for a way to change turned vampires back to humans, but I didn't know if he had a successful formula yet. She could still be with him, or she could've been auctioned off again to some random scumbag. I walked into my own dark room. I used to have a bedside lamp, but when I found out that Sage had told Inell what the mark meant, I lost my temper and threw the lamp at her. It shattered and glass went into her cheek, permanently scarring her formerly blemishless face.
