My eyes fluttered open. I had no idea what had happened or where I was. My whole body ached, and I had a thirst for something I had never tasted before.
"You're awake," a voice said. I turned my head around and saw the man that was with Master Baekhyun the night before. He had messy bright red hair and his ears stuck out. He also appeared to be rather tall.
"W-Who are you?" I asked in a raspy voice.
"Chanyeol," he answered. "Now, you're probably wondering what you're doing here, so let me explain. You were attacked last night by Sehun, and he came very close to killing you. I did the only thing I could do to save you." He paused for a moment to let me take in everything I had just been told. "I changed you."
I sat up in the bed, eyes widened. The thirst. It could only be one thing: I was craving blood.
"Please," he said. "Please calm down. I have this all sorted out. As long as you don't have any blood for the next few hours, you'll be fine."
"How?" I snapped back. "Not drinking blood won't just magically make me human again!"
"No, it won't. But I-"
"You can't do anything!" I cried. "There's no way to reverse this. You've turned me into one of you blood-sucking monsters-"
I suddenly felt my vocal cords give out. My mouth was moving, but no words were coming out. I realized that he must've been telekinetic, and he used it to shut me up.
"I am a very patient person, Inell," Chanyeol began. "But even I have my limits. Now, I want you to go into the kitchen. My slave, Bree, should be in there. Tell her to give you the carnation. You may have your voice back now." In that instant, the constricting feeling in my throat ceased.
I complied and began navigating around the house. I was light headed and everything in my mind just seemed foggy. Eventually, I found the kitchen and saw Bree in there. She was short and skinny with light brown hair, dark blue eyes, and freckles dotted across her face. She had a mark on her neck, which tipped me off to the fact that she was Chanyeol's personal slave.
"Bree," I said. She turned around and faced me. "Chanyeol told me to get the... the, um," I struggled to remember what he called it. "Carnation," I remembered.
"Okay," she replied as she started digging through the cabinets. I could practically feel my eyes redden. My mouth watered. I needed blood. Now.
I lunged at Bree and pinned her to the ground. She let out a scream. I felt my fangs extend, but before I could sink them into Bree's neck, I was slammed against the wall. I saw Chanyeol standing at the other end of the room shaking his head. He went closer and took my hand, bringing me back to the room.
"I forgot that you are a young vampire," he said. "It's my fault. I shouldn't have let you go in there."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I'm sure you remember Sehun. He's twenty-three years old, which qualifies him as a young vampire. Until a vampire reaches the age of fifty, they have next to no self control, even if they were born a vampire."
"Why are they like that?"
"It's complicated," he said, running his hand through his hair. "It has something to do with their bodies developing. Since Sehun was born a vampire, it didn't hit him as hard as, say, you."
"So," I began. "What you're telling me is that I'm worse than Sehun?"
Chanyeol sighed. "No. Inell, it's not your fault that you're craving blood. It's just vampire nature."
"But I'm gonna be this way for the next fifty years!"
He smiled. "That's what I was getting to," he said. "There may be no sure-fire way to turn a vampire back to a human without them...dying, but I have figured out a way to change people back."
"What are the chances of death in this procedure?" I asked.
He licked his lips. "It's not exactly perfected at this point, so with my results so far, out of five people, three died, but the two that survived became completely human afterwards."
I sighed. "So there's only a forty percent success rate?"
Chanyeol nodded his head. "It's either that, or you stay in this room. With me. For the next fifty years until you calm down."
I took a deep breath and ran my hands through my hair. "I'll do the procedure."
"That's what I thought," he said with a smile. He left the room for a bit and came back with a jar full of pink flower petals. I assumed that that was the carnation that I was suppose to get earlier. He went over to the desk in the corner of the room and began mixing ingredients together.
"What was your blood type?" Chanyeol asked as he crushed the petals in a bowl.
"B negative," I responded. He held his hand up and a bag of blood went flying across the room and into his hand. He set the bag down and put some white powder into the bowl with the crushed petals. Soon enough, he had a pinkish liquid in a syringe.
"Not going to lie, this will hurt. A lot," he said. I nodded my head and closed my eyes as he injected the stuff into my arm. He was right, it did hurt. It felt like my entire arm was being poked with hundreds of needles, and the pain only spread. He then hooked me up to an IV of blood.
"Did you notice that all your scars are gone?" he asked me in an attempt to get my mind off the pain.
"What?" I said. He lifted up my shirt and revealed my stomach. All the scars I had from the barb wire were gone. Even that small scar I had from a cat was gone.
"Vampires heal differently from humans," he informed me. "They don't scar, and for some reason, when a human becomes a vampire, it clears all their scars away."
I had a realization. If those scars were gone, did that also mean... I put my hand up to my neck.
"The mark is gone," I said in disbelief. He smiled. It was my turn to ask him a question.
Only royals and nobles had colored hair, and since his hair was red, that could only mean one thing.
"Chanyeol," I began. "Are you a noble?" The smile faded from his face.
"My father was," he told me. "But we had a falling out awhile back, and now I'm just common folk."
"Why is your hair colored?"
"Red means dishonored," he said. "Everyone looks at me and instantly knows that I brought shame to my family. If I had a choice, I'd have black hair like everyone else. I'd just be normal, and not some dishonorable child."
"If you don't mind me asking, what did you do?"
Chanyeol sighed. "Nobles are expected to love and marry pure blood vampires, but I didn't. I loved my brother's human slave and refused to love the pure blood that my family had arranged for me to marry. My family disowned me, and that slave was put to death. I haven't spoken to any member of my family since."
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Don't feel sorry for me," he responded. A faint smile appeared on his face. "I'm better off now that I'm on my own. I can breath. I can do what I want without fear of being seen as a disgrace. I'm free."
I looked into each other's eyes for a few moments, but a sharp pain in my side ended that beautiful moment. Chanyeol rushed over to my side.
"It's working," he said. "Just relax. It'll all be over soon."
