Grant's eyes filled with tears the moment he saw me.
He fell to his knees with a thud, lunged forward, and wrapped both arms around my legs.
"Elena, I finally found you! These six months have been hell. I think about you every day, and my head hurts so badly I can't stand it. Please come home with me. I know I was wrong."
I looked down at the man I had once loved.
I pulled my legs free and stepped back.
"Don't touch me. You're disgusting."
I spoke quietly, but the words drained the color from his face.
He raised one hand and began making frantic promises.
"Elena, believe me. I threw that greedy woman out. She only wanted my money, but you're the only woman who has ever mattered to me."
A bucketful of dirty mop water suddenly drenched Grant from head to toe.
