CHAPTER 11

1804 Words
For over five hours Haley, her sister Halsey, Ellen and her brother Eli sat on the large sofa with their hands on their chins. Mrs D, was already dozing off on the arm chair. They were all waiting for Rey to open her eyes. Everyone was worried sick, Vee too, she hated not being able to offer any help, the scanning she had done proved that nothing was wrong with Rey and the wait was just too uncomfortable for her. "Vee, maybe you should send a message back home and tell them that something is wrong with the Princess." Ellen stood up and everyone shot heir eyes up to face her. "It's just a suggestion." She shrugged. "How much of this life do you really hate?" Vee asked. "What?" Ellen asked. "You don't want to be ones in trouble because of the Princess. They would never spare you or anyone who is close to you." Vee explained lightly. "Her people?" She asked. "Yes." "Do you really think that her mother would do what she threatened to do? I mean pass off the crown to someone else?" Eli asked totally changing the subject. "The Queen does have the authority to do that, but..." Vee paused. "Princess Rey is an only child although she does have an adopted brother, who is by blood her half brother. They share the same father but the queen took him in so he cannot be the next in line, no one would allow that." Vee explained briefly. "What about her mother, is she an only child too?" Haley asked. "No, she is the first born, she has a sister who is a year younger than her, but she would rather be in charge with handling the AI's than rule, the same applies to her daughter, Rey's cousin who was born a month earlier than Rey." "So technically it's just Rey for that title?" Eli asked. "Yes, that is until the Princess and Lord Eyken have their own child." "Lord Eyken? I didn't know her betrothed has any ranks." Haley said. "Although he is not from Octus Nova, Eyken is a noble. His father is a Lord by birth, making him one." Vee said. "Don't they like, marry people of their class, I mean isn't she supposed to marry a Prince or something?" Haley wondered. "That bill isn't really immune but the Princess and her betrothed fought alot to get where they are." Vee stated. "Why?" Halsey asked. "One because he is not a citizen of Octus Nova and two because to date he hasn't shown if he has any special gifts except his undoubtful good skills and the power to shield anyone from danger." Vee answered her. For another two minutes of undisturbed quietness everyone in that room had their eyes on Rey, there was no way they could help her, Vee had said that they had to wait, and they were all adhering to Vee's suggestion, she knew her better than they all did and so they waited but for another five hours later nothing happened. During that desperate moment with nothing else to do other than give Rey the time she needed they all choose to take turns getting some rest and watching over her, while Vee worked on relaying the Princess's condition back home. "This waiting is too much. Do you think that she is dead?" Haley blurted out after what seemed like an eternity, and they all shot their eyes at her. "I would still come back." And then they heard a faint voice say softly, they turned to her, Rey and watched her as she slowly opened her eyes. "She is awake." Mrs. D stood up and walked over to her while Ellen helped her sit up but Rey didn't allow her, Mrs D reached out to check her vitals but Rey pushed her away. "I just want to know how you are." She defended herself. "Princess." Rey looked past Ellen and sa Vee, there was a sudden anger written all over her and everyone in that room felt that the minute they all locked eyes with her. "I will be fine." Rey forced herself to say but she chocked on her own words, she didn't know whether or not she had lied or tried to ease herself of her own feelings, while she sat up she closed her eyes for a few moments and as the air passed through her she felt her heart race, she couldn't stop it no matter how much she tried her routine so she opened them and for a brief moment stared at the palm of her hands and everything around her. "What happened Princess?" Vee asked concerned. "I ruined everything Vee." Rey admitted. "What do you mean?" Haley asked. "Don't worry its nothing that I can't fix." She answered her and for everyone peace of mind they all choose to not press anymore witnessing just how she wasn't herself. "Rey are you a vampire by any chance?" Ellen asked cutting off the sudden tension between them. "Why?" Rey asked surprised. "Well you said that you would still come back after Haley mentioned that you could be dead." Ellen explained. "I am not a vampire." Rey shook her head. "Well that's good." Eli smiled but she didn't bother looking at him. "But I am a Vasten, a generation that has been struck with the perks of choosing to come back from the dead if they are to die that is before their bodies finally give out. Although in my family it was my great grandmother who inherited it and like it seems I inherited that from her." She explained. "Like my great grandmother died five times in her entire life until her body gave out." She added. "Have you died before?" Ellen asked her. "I think so, before you found me, there are memories that are still vague, like three hours before you found me and that could only mean one thing..." "That your heart stopped beating." Mrs. D said and Rey just nodded. "Apart from that as a Vasten, future queen with the guidance of my grandmother I can be able to talk to her even though she is dead, that's where I was when I lost consciousness." She said softly. "Wow." Everyone except Vee gasped in awe. "Did she maybe mention how you came to this earth?" Hasley asked. "No, she didn't." Rey shook her head. "Do you think you teleported?" She asked again. "I am not sure, but I know that I cannot teleport I don't have the gifts to do that." Rey answered her. "Then...then maybe someone teleported you here." Mrs. D who had her eyes on her suggested. "I don't think I have an idea of who it might be." Rey blinked, Mrs. D's suggestion still lingering in her mind, there were so many coincidences to just not think about that, the fact that she might have died and the fact that she had no memories of what might have happened. "Thank you, I know you tried to help." She forced a smile as she stood up. "You are here and it is my duty to help anyone in need." Mrs. D smiled at her too. "Rey, can I talk to you?" Halsey turned to face her just before she took her leave. "Outside." She motioned for her to follow, tying the watch on her wrist she followed Halsey outside. "Is something wrong?" Rey asked her once they were out of earshot. For a few seconds Halsey paced back and forth then she stood still just a couple of meters away from Rey. "I saw you, you know. I mean when your eyes changed color, now they are back and it was frightening, I am not really one to be afraid but now..." Halsey paused for a while. "You are scared of me." Rey finished the sentence for her. "Same with everyone back there, I can feel it." She added. "I don't mean to, you know." "I do, really but you should be... You should be very scared of me." "That's not the problem right now." Halsey said to her. "What is?" "I got word from my father that our neighbours are coming for war they want revenge for what happened to their three men." Hearing that, Rey didn't even blink she stared blankly at Halsey, what she had just said was as a result of her own doings, she had brought that to them. "And I don't know what to do." Halsey added, it was too obvious she was worried, but who wouldn't be? They were at a place where they would have to fight against people seeking for revenge, war or not Rey knew what that meant and things like those never ended well so she composed herself. "This is all on me, I brought this to you, I apologise but I will make sure not one of your people will get hurt." Then she said to her, in the most calm voice. "I hope you are right." Halsey sighed stealing a glance at her mother who was inside packing her medical kit. "Go on, I need some air." Rey said to her and she watched her grand back inside, for a moment she watched her hug her step mother tightly, then she extended the hug to her sister just as they all got into the embrace. It was obvious she had not shared the news with either of them. "This is all on me, grandmother was right." She said to herself. "You are not thinking about what I think you are, are you?" "I am Vee, I will fix this for them." "What really happened?" "Because of my actions, I broke the connection that links all the Vastens." She revealed. "That means that the darkness is in you and that you figured out your other gift?" "Yes, and while the darkness may be the end of me, I will recconect that link even if I cannot feel her right now." She said quietly. "And I will keep them safe no matter what it takes." She added. There was no doubt that she meant every word and just like the same hospitality she had been shown she knew that she had to repay that back. "You can feel it, can't you?" Vee asked her. "Yes." She answered her in time to realise that she had clenched both her fists and as she slowly let go she felt the heaviness in her leave, that was what she was going to have to control before she had further caused any damage but first she had something very important to do, she stared at her engagement ring, swallowed hard and then she closed her eyes walking straight to where Ellen had found her.
