CHAPTER 8

"So, how is it?" Ellen who was still in her pajamas asked, she had bought doughnuts earlier that morning hoping that maybe in a way they would act as an appetizer for Rey who she thought was just starving herself. "Is it good?" Haley leaned on the table staring at her hard. "I-its..." She gagged. "Is it that bad?" Ellen asked her. "No," Rey shook her head and tried another bite of the chocolate sprinkles doughnut. "I mean I can only taste the sugar in it." She added. "Maybe you should try and finish it, you haven't tried eating anything else." Haley suggested once she saw Rey take another bite. "She can go as long as she wants to without eating." Vee exclaimed. "For how long?" Ellen turned to her from the table infront of her. "Few months at most." Vee replied watching Rey eat silently, she gagged once in a while but she still managed to finish the doughnut. "Well that is progress on your end." Ellen smiled at her. "Maybe, I still have a long way to go." Rey shrugged. "Princess." "What is it Vee?" She turned her attention to Vee. "Princess you have an incoming hologram." "I do? on this earth?" Rey stood up shocked, she tried to put two and two together about who would be calling and when she got tired of thinking she signaled to Vee to allow the call, but who she saw was definatley someone she was not expecting, in a long golden fantasy fashion dress, a diamond crown which had blue sparkles on top of her head, her hair a long golden one, she had picked it from her grandmother, while she, Rey had picked hers, the ash blonde one from her grandmother, the same color eyes and skin tone she glanced at her, loss at words, both of them were in utter shock at the presence of each another. "Wow, that's one radiant woman." Eli said coming inside no one was paying any attention to him, all their concentration was on someone else. "That one should be beheaded immediately!" She finally spoke her eyes at Eli who stood next to his sister. "Mom!" Rey gasped. "I-I..." She stuttered. "No wonder they look so much alike, but she is so good looking." Eli whispered to Ellen. "Shhh." Ellen frowned. "Sorry." He whispered again. "Rey." "You got my message." Rey said, she obviously couldn't help but show a slight smile all over. "I did, I had to figure out which part of this human earth you were at." "Am just glad to see you mom." "You need to return home Rey." "But I can't mom, I don't even recall how I got here." Rey argued and what her mother was going to say next it didn't take her time to figure it out because she knew her too well and that's exactly what she said or asked. "You want me to believe that?" "Why else would I be stuck here in the first place mom?" "For all the many reasons I can think of Rey." "Lets just drop it mom, is there a way I can get back." "I am not risking any travelling ship right now." Her mother replied and her face sunk, there was hope to get back home but her mother like the queen she was she was not taking any risks not even with and that sucked so much but she forced herself to face her. She had been so delighted to see her but all she could feel right then was the burning anger from inside. "Fine, I should have thought that was expected." She sighed. "Rey," "You know what mom, in the meantime why don't you just pass off my title as the next queen to someone else, someone worthy of it." She said angrily. In a way she knew her mother wouldn't do that because of various reasons but she surely wasn't taking any chances, she thought that if she was going to lose she might as well lose everything. "I might think about what you've just said." "My queen." Just like that everyone was saved by Vee who had been silent, the tension between all of them was cutting them really deep then she, Rey knew she couldn't hold it inside any longer so she clenched both her fist real hard. "You should really watch what you do, the humans are struggling to breathe." Then she heard her mother's not so concerned voice, she looked around and saw Eli, Ellen and Haley all gasping for air, without realising it she forced herself to relax and opened her hands and in less than a second their breathing had gone back to normal. "It came true." The queen exclaimed there was no asking what had come true, there was no explanation needed because everyone in that room knew exactly what she meant and instead of giving her an answer she reached out for her watch, watched her mother with sad eyes. "Bye mom." She said sadly. "Rey don't yo-." But she didn't get to finish her warning because Rey switched her off. "Did you just..." Haley faced her "I did." Rey replied taking a sit. "Princess someone was listening in to your mother's conversation." "What do you mean Vee?" Rey asked stunned, everything in her life was slowly going downhill and she didn't have control to any of that no matter how much she wanted. She sat still, unmoved her eyes still at Vee, there was. She thought about how much it meant to her to just catch a glimpes of her mother, a little reminder that there was home out there, a home that now she wondered if it was anyway safe, if any of the people she cared about were getting along, if there was any sign of peace but all that seemed like an imposible because she was stuck in a place where maybe then someone out there knew. "Rey," She rubbed her face amd turned to see Ellen's concerned face at her. "Sorry, Vee do you have any idea of who it might be?" "No Princess." Vee replied. "What I am sure of is that someone hacked the monitors in the Queen's quotas." She added. "How much of this can I take?" Rey breathed heavily and then she slammed the table in front of her and almost hit Eli with it. "Sorry." She looked up and apologized. "I might do something I will end up regretting if I things go on like this." She faced them all and admitted. "Ah! can anyone just say what we are all thinking about?" Haley asked. "No one is thinking about it, it's just you." Eli said to her and she just ignored him and stared at Rey. "That there maybe a traitor in the kingdom." Rey said firmly. "That would make sense." Vee claimed. "I cannot rule anyone out right now so Vee I want you to encrypt all the monitors in the realm even from all our borders." Rey explained and she switched off her watch and noticed that still all eyes were on her. "What is it?" She asked. "What's the deal with your mom?" Eli asked her. "It nothing." She asnwered him. "No it's not, so what is it?" He tried once more. "The curse about one of the princesses is a big deal to everyone whether the royals or anyone else. So my mom with that in mind never wanted any kids and when I came around she did everything she could to distance herself from me and I grew up knowing that so everytime we talk, I recall all the things I've heard and we just end up fighting." She explained. "But from the looks of it, she does care about you." Haley tried to ease up the moment. "I guess we will never know." Rey chuckled, she was just tying to not seem affected but in truth she was but she had learnt enough to hide that. "Why don't you ever show emotions? it's obvious just how much it hurts you, what you grew up knowing, about you being stuck here, the relationship with your mum and the new change in your life right now." Ellen wondered. "Because as a princess, a royal head guardian and a future queen. I am not to show any sign of weakness and any kind of emotions are a sign of weakness." Rey explained. "But emotions do not make you weak, they only show that you are human." Eli argued. "But I am not human, am I?" She asked and everyone sunk in their sits and a long silence followed then in a split second Rey stared briefly at her hands, she replayed what had happened earlier, with her mother's message about the humans struggling to breathe and in the hardest way possible she understood it was all because of her, what she had done, all along she was controlling the amount of air they were breathing and she felt it right then when she was clutching her fists again, the heaviness in it, their changed expressions and then in a split second everything was back to normal the minute she opened them. In that moment Rey understood quite well what it was, the first one, it was the power to control air, her first gift, the one she could call her own, the one if she was not careful enough she would endager everyone around her and as much as she hated to admit it, the so called prophecy was true there was no denying it any longer.
