"Four hundred and seventy eight," Rey continued to count, she had been doing that since Ellen and Haley finally fell asleep.
She lay on the sofa her head on the edge of it, and her eyes at the two humans she had just met.
Ellen was on the top side while Haley slept on the bottom side.
"Four hundred and seventy nine." She watched as Haley turned the other side and she was able to see her face while she slowly opened her eyes.
"Four hundred and eighty." She added softly.
"That was a complete eight hours." Haley sat up while she stretched taking care not to bother Ellen.
"You've been listening?" Rey asked her.
"Not really, I left you at two hundred and eighty one." She answered simply watched Rey check her watched for quite a while.
"You couldn't fall asleep?" She asked her.
"No, this is not my home and it's hard to try and rest."
"I am sorry you don't feel safe here." Ellen finally woke up rubbing her face as she sat up. Rey just ignored her she had serious issues to sort out, her watch had been on for almost five hours because she was waiting for Vee's reply for a whole night. She was worried and she didn't want to show it, it wasn't in her place to show emotions, that wasn't her, she knew that so she she took a deep forced breathe and stretched out her legs.
"Princess."
"Vee."
"Sorry, I took so long." She apologised just as Haley and Ellen were tidying the sofa.
"Were you able to send a message to my mother?" Rey asked her.
"Yes."
"Tell me everything." She sat upright.
"Octus Nova people think you...you vanished without a trace and your mother is having a very hard time the same goes to Eyken and the entire court." Vee said and the anguish written all over Rey's face was just too much so she stood up forcing herself to be calm.
"How heavy is this thing?" Ellen's question drew her to the sword that was lying on the floor so she walked over to her, picked it and shoved it on the sash around her waist.
"You feel it's heaviness because it's supposed to be handled by specific people, the ones you use are yours to handle." Rey said twisting her lips.
"Vee did you tell my mother where I am?" She turned her attention back to Vee.
"Yes, that you are on planet earth, but there is a problem." Vee said.
"What problem?" Haley and Ellen asked at the same time noticing how the situation was at hand.
"Princess you've been here a day and that has been a whole week back home."
"That's has got to be a joke!" Ellen almost raised her voice staring at Vee.
"I informed your mother that you are on planet earth, but she didn't believe me."
"Ofcourse she didn't." Rey bit her lower lip in anger, as she moved closer to the door trying to comprehend what was happening. She had spent an entire night wide awake counting every minute as it went by, waiting for Vee, waiting for a confirmation that maybe, just maybe she still had a home but all that came crumbling down on her the minute Vee informed her about her mother's disbelief on where she currently was.
She felt a severe burn of anger rise in her through her body as it circled through her eyes and she thought it was tears but nothing of that sort was welling up except the sudden intense anger she felt inside.
"Rey am sure your mother will understand everything soon, it's hard but she will." Ellen walked over to her, she was trying to help, to ease the situation but her words only made Rey feel worse than she did so she looked at her.
"You think everything will be okay?" She raised her voice her hand going over her sword, she forcefully removed it out of her sash and Ellen seeing that she took a few steps back.
"Rey." Haley called her standing beside Ellen.
"Don't you get it you two? My people train themselves how to forget you if you vanish or if you die! My own mother is doing that, in a few day's everyone will follow what she has to do so will Eyken, I will never have him anyway because he will be forced to choose someone else to marry, if I continue to prolong my stay here." Rey snapped at both of them.
"Rey you should step outside." Vee said to her.
"I need some air, don't follow me please." Rey said and she walked out in a matter of a second.
"What was that?" Haley asked Ellen.
"I don't know, but I've never seen anyone so angry." Ellen shook her head.
*****
The sword still on her hand, Rey wandered off the bare land. There weren't many house on either sides, many of them were a couple meters away from each other, and it was utterly quiet, a quietness she wasn't used to.
"I could have hurt them Vee." She said worried.
"But you didn't, you stopped yourself." Vee tried to lighten up the mood.
"How long am I supposed to take this? I don't know what to do." She complained. "And I am afraid that I may end up hurting one of the humans badly and none of them will be able to defend themselves." She added.
"Princess don't be so hard on yourself, you will find a way out. You always do."
"What if I don't this time round?" Rey asked.
"I cannot stay here Vee, I just can't." She shook her head.
"Look straight ahead, what do you see?"
"Two trees."
"You need to calm down, use them."
Vee said and Rey didn't hesitate, she walked over to them, held the sword with both hand, held it tightly and then she raised it and swung it back and forth with ease taking care not to hack any branches as she imagined she was in training, she had gone off like that for maybe five to ten minutes until she felt someone behind her, so she twisted her right arm and held it on his neck and he abruptly let go of the hand he was trying to grasp.
"Get you hand off me!" She said harshly and he did. "Next time I won't be so kind to give you a warning, I will just chop it off." She added.
"Whoah!" He gasped. "Will you cool it."
"Excuse me."
"I mean calm down." He rephrased his statement.
"What do you want Eli?" She asked him allowing her eyes to go through what he was wearing, some blue jeans, a white t-shirt and some blue slippers.
"I came to apologize about yesterday." He said and she forced herself to stop staring at him and focus on the sword she still had on his neck.
"Okay, you can go." She said to him giving him some space.
"I mean it, I am really sorry." He said again, he didn't seem to be in a hurry to get away from her so she walked past him.
"You married?" Eli asked her before she was further away.
"What?" She turned back to face him.
"The ring on your ring finger." He pointed to her left hand and she sighed understanding his question.
"No, I am am engaged." She answered him.
"Must be a lucky guy." Eli smiled at her.
Any guy must be very lucky to know they would spent forever with you.
"Yes they would, I mean yes he is a lucky guy." Rey said, she had messed up again by reading his thoughts and it was finally clear to her she wasn't controlling her powers the way she used to.
"I should get going." She said but he didn't say anything, he just smiled at her and watched her take off. Rey retraced her steps back to the only place she could go back to and when she got there Ellen and Haley were already waiting for her, there were worried faces between them, she hadn't left them like that.
"You guys okay?" So she asked walking inside.
"You should tell her." Ellen nudged Haley.
"She should tell me what?" Rey asked Ellen.
"I don't think I can." Haley shook her head.
"Do it." Ellen said to her.
"Okay." Haley sighed. "My sister is challenging you on a duel, you lose you leave, you win you stay."
"Is that all?" Rey asked, she didn't mean to sound rude but she had enough on her plate to worry about anyone's feelings.
"Yes thats all." Ellen answered her.
"You cannot accept my sister's challenge." Haley said to Rey.
"Because you know she will lose to me?"
"Yes." Haley replied.
"Don't worry I will not embarrass her like that." Rey said simply.
"You don't mean that, do you?" Vee asked her.
"We are just going to have to wait to find that out." Rey said softly and all Haley and Ellen could do was stare at her uneasy, they both had seen an angry her maybe not close but the Rey that stood right infront of them was not the one they had witnessed before so what would happen on that duel? Would she fight to stay at a place she was unwelcomed? They wondered but they knew they had to wait until the following day to get their answers because they still had a whole day to go on with.
