Chapter 3 - Elora's POV(Part 2)

1096 Words
Fury ignited in his eyes as he turned back to her, the humiliation of being "sliced" igniting an angry snarl on his lips. Elora’s pulse quickened; she had only wanted to defend herself. “Caleb, wait!” she called out, holding her hands up in a placating gesture. “It was just a drill!” He lunged again, more furious than before, but before he could reach her, one of the Alpha triplets intercepted him midleap. The duo tumbled around for a bit before separating and gave Caleb a warning growl. The anger in Caleb's eyes faltered slightly as he paused then changed to confusion as his friend growled at him. Caleb hesitated, his breathing heavy, the weight of the future alpha’s presence forcing him to reconsider. Elora’s heart raced as she processed the confrontation, the adrenaline coursing through her veins. She had managed to defend herself, but the consequences of that action were just beginning to unfold. With a snort, Caleb stormed away, then Talon turned to her. He seemed to sniff the air and study her. At first his eyes seemed happy, then quickly to confusion and then anger. Elora braced for his attack, the triplets were never ones to let a moment to bully her pass them by. But she was surprised when Talon also let out an annoyed snort then trotted away from her. Elora took a steadying breath and pushed away the whirlwind of emotions from her confrontation with Caleb and Talon. Why had Talon even bothered to defend her. Caleb had always slammed her into lockers in front of the triplets in the past. The last straw for her to focus so hard on school and graduate as soon as possible had been when the triplets had held her down and Caleb shaved off all her long blonde hair. She had told her parents she had wanted it this way but she knew they knew she was lying. To keep up the ruse she kept her head buzzed until she left for college. Only then did she feel safe to let her hair grow out again. Needing to refocus on the task at hand, Elora took a deep breath she stood up and continued with the drill. She moved through the training grounds, her hands flying over injuries as warriors returned from their mock battle. She treated cuts, scrapes, and bruises with efficiency. Never losing focus, never making a mistake. The atmosphere buzzed with adrenaline as the last of the warriors returned to her for treatment. She felt a swell of pride at her ability to help, her earlier anxiety now transformed into a fierce determination. Today was about more than just proving herself; it was about being part of something larger—belonging in this pack. Not much longer after the last injury was treated, a sharp whistle cut through the air, signaling the end of the drill. Warriors began shifting back into their human forms, the tension evaporating as laughter and cheers erupted from the group. “We did it!” one of the younger recruits shouted, pumping his fist into the air. Elora joined in the celebration, but her heart still raced from the earlier confrontation. Just as she began to feel a sense of camaraderie, Alpha Gavin raised his hand for silence, his expression darkening as he scanned the crowd. “Silence!” he commanded, his voice cutting through the cheers. The warriors fell quiet, a ripple of confusion and concern washing over them. “What happened out there?” Alpha Gavin’s gaze landed on his sons, Talon, Falon, and Calin, his tone sharp with authority. “One of you attacked a teammate!” Elora’s heart sank. She had hoped the incident with Caleb would blow over, but the Alpha’s presence loomed large, and now it seemed trouble was brewing. Talon stepped forward, his posture rigid. “Caleb attacked Elora unprovoked,” he stated, his voice steady. “Elora defended herself with the fake knife.” Elora was surprised Talon even admitted to what happened. Normally he would have made an excuse for his friend. Elora looked at Caleb who had a look of betrayal etched across his face. “What were you thinking, Caleb?” Alpha Gavin's voice thundered across the training ground. Elora turned to see Caleb standing a few paces away, his expression a mix of anger and humiliation. His gaze locked onto her, and she felt a shiver run down her spine under the weight of his glare. “It was just a mistake, Alpha!” Caleb retorted, his voice strained. “I thought she was on the other team.” “No Excuses!” Alpha Gavin interrupted, his patience thinning. “You attacked your own teammate! You need to always be aware who is an ally and who is your foe. What part of this drill did you not understand?” Elora’s heart raced as she watched the exchange, feeling caught in a storm of emotions. The tension hung thick in the air as the pack watched, eyes darting between their Alpha and the two young wolves at the center of the storm. Caleb’s expression flickered between defiance and regret, but the anger simmered beneath the surface. “She shouldn’t have been there in the first place!” he shouted, his voice strained. “She useless!” Elora felt the sting of his words, the weight of rejection crashing over her. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “Everyone belongs in this pack!” Alpha Gavin bellowed, his authority unmistakable. “You are warriors, and she is our doctor. You should respect her for that. If you can’t learn to work as a team, then you don’t deserve to fight alongside one another!” A heavy silence followed his declaration, the tension slowly dissipating. Elora took a deep breath, trying to quell the rush of emotions swirling inside her. Caleb’s expression had shifted to rage but it was now directed at her. “Now, if you’re all done squabbling like children,” Alpha Gavin said, his voice dropping to a more measured tone, “let’s gather ourselves and prepare for the next phase.” Turning to leave. Elora jumped when someone grabbed her shoulder. “Elora, you did well today. Your ability to handle pressure is commendable. Keep it up.” Alpha Gavin said. She was relieved it was him. Normally Elora would have welcomed the praise but the way Caleb continued to murderously glare at her, she knew this vendetta he had against her was far from over.
