Chapter 19 - Elora's POV (Part 2)

As evening settled, they arrived at their friend’s pack, the sun dipping below the horizon and casting a golden hue over the land. The ambiance was festive, with lights strung across the trees and laughter echoing from nearby gatherings. An Omega werewolf greeted them and immediately took them to their accommodations. Elora was taken aback when she realized the room they were assigned was meant for all four of them. “Wait, we’re sharing a room?” she asked, her eyes wide as she looked from Talon to his brothers. “Don’t worry,” Talon assured her, a playful glint in his eye. “We’ll be gentlemen. Just think of it as an extended sleepover!” Elora exhaled slowly, taking in the unexpected situation. Sharing a room with the triplets wasn’t exactly what she’d anticipated, and the whole scenario felt surreal. She nodded at Talon’s lighthearted assurance and gave a faint smile. "Fine. I’m holding you to it," she said, heading toward the bathroom with her bag in tow as the boys were left in the main part of the room laughing. Locking the door behind her, she leaned against it for a moment, grounding herself. The banter and unexpected kindness from the triplets had eased some of her initial tension, and she couldn’t deny how different things felt. A part of her wondered if this temporary truce would hold. Trying not to overthink, she turned her attention to the dress she’d packed for the evening, a piece that had hung in her closet for months waiting for the right occasion. It was a flowy summer dress, soft and covered in a delicate print of wildflowers, the kind of dress that felt as if it belonged to someone carefree and confident. The light fabric would be perfect for a warm summer night, and the spaghetti straps and plunging neckline added a hint of boldness she wasn’t entirely sure she felt. But tonight felt different. She slipped into the dress, adjusting the straps and taking a moment to steady herself in the mirror. A knock on the bathroom door interrupted her thoughts. “We’re heading outside to join everyone,” Talon’s voice called through the door. “You good in there?” “Yeah, I’ll be right out,” she replied, smoothing her dress and running a brush through her platinum hair. She gave herself one last look in the mirror, nerves fluttering in her stomach. As she opened the door and stepped out, the room was already empty—the triplets had gone to join the others. Taking a steadying breath, she followed the sounds of laughter and music, making her way outside. The sight that met her was almost magical. Twinkling lights draped across the trees, and the golden hue of the setting sun bathed everything in warm light. Groups of werewolves mingled and laughed, enjoying the evening festivities, while the soft hum of music and chatter filled the air. But as she walked closer, heads began to turn in her direction, and she could feel eyes on her. For the first time, though, it didn’t feel like they were watching her with judgment. It felt different—admiring, maybe even curious. A few people whispered among themselves, but the expressions weren’t mocking or harsh. Elora held her chin high, feeling a glimmer of confidence she hadn’t felt in a long time. She caught sight of the triplets, standing together and laughing, but as soon as they noticed her, their expressions shifted, each of them stunned as they took her in. Talon looked at her like he was seeing her for the first time, while Falon gave a low whistle under his breath, his eyes widening slightly. Calin, who was usually the most expressive, seemed at a rare loss for words, mouth slightly parted. Before she could join them, someone called out that dinner was about to be served. Elora followed the triplets to a spot at the table that had folded pieces of paper that had their names on them expertly placed in the middle of the plate. Falon moved first, standing and walking over to pull out a seat. “Elora,” he said softly, his tone unusually gentle as he gestured for her to sit between him and Talon. She could feel his hand steadying her as she took her place, the warmth of his touch lingering. “Didn’t think you’d go all out tonight,” Calin said, breaking the silence with a playful grin. “But you…you look great.” Elora felt her cheeks heat up, grateful for the warm glow of the evening to mask her blush. “Thanks,” she replied, trying to sound casual, though her heart raced. As dinner was brought out, the triplets each took turns pulling her into the ongoing banter. Falon leaned over, smirking as he teased Talon about his lack of fashion sense, while Calin recounted one of Falon’s past mishaps at a party, causing a ripple of laughter among them. Elora found herself genuinely laughing, her earlier nerves melting away in the warmth of the company. The night air was filled with laughter and the scent of blooming flowers, and for the first time in a long time, Elora felt like she was part of something. The guarded walls she’d built around herself began to crack, and the warmth of the moment seeped into the spaces she’d kept hidden, letting her feel the beginnings of acceptance. It was unexpected and unfamiliar, but tonight, sitting between the triplets with the golden light casting a soft glow over them, she let herself embrace it. At the head of the table a man stood. Elora realized that this was the soon-to-be alpha, Alpha Mitchell, the triplets' best friend from the Alpha University they all attended. Alpha Mitchell was a tall figure with a commanding presence and a welcoming smile. Next to him stood his wife. Her graceful demeanor radiated an air of mystique. Elora noticed the delicate gold and silver trinkets woven into her dark hair, which caught the light beautifully, hinting at something otherworldly. “Welcome!” Alpha Mitchell boomed, “Thank you all for coming. I appreciate everyone that has come to celebrate with me and my pack as I take the mantle of Alpha tomorrow. And while I already know many of you, I look forward to getting to know the ones that don’t and look forward to working with you all.” Elora smiled and clapped with the others. “Please, take your time and enjoy your time here.” Alpha Mitchell’s Luna said. Elora recalled that the triplets told her that the Luna’s name was Lucinda. Lucinda’s eyes lingered on Elora for just a moment before she sat down as everyone applauded again. She continued to study Elora throughout the evening. There was a glint in her gaze that made Elora’s heart race, as if she were seeing right through her. Then, for a brief moment, an inexplicable jolt shot through her. It felt as if Lucinda was looking into every nook, crabby and corner of her soul. The feeling became warm as the energy rippled through her. Alpha Mitchell and Ludinda made their way over to the triplets and Elora. The triplets all hugged their friend before introducing Elora to him. Elora shook both Alpha Mitchell and Lucinda’s hand and another surge of energy surged through her body. It was at that moment that Elora realized Lucinda was a witch. “Tell us about you, Elora!” Luna Lucinda said as she pulled her hand from Elora’s with an amused smile. Her voice was smooth and inviting. Elora glanced at Triplets, who grinned at her encouragingly. “My father is the pack doctor, and I am currently a resident at his hospital.” “Your father is the pack doctor you say?” Alpha Mitchell gave the triplets a questioning look. It didn’t take a genius to guess that he had heard about Elora from the triplets. Probably while away at college. “We will catch you up, later this week.” Calin laughed nervously, obviously trying to brush him off. “You better.” Alpha Gavin replied and began to lead his Luna to greet other guests. “I look forward to getting to know you better,” Lucinda told Elora before being led away.
