The walk back from the council chamber was quiet. Their footsteps echoed through the palace corridors as respectful whispers followed them. Everything since the battle blurred together, leaving only the quiet pulse of Selene's awakening beneath it all.
Orion walked beside her without speaking. Close enough that she could feel his presence. She appreciated that. Sometimes silence was the kindest thing another person could offer.
When they finally reached their chambers, Orion pushed the door open and waited for her to step inside before closing it behind them. The latch clicked softly. For the first time all day... everything became still.
Selene stood there for a long moment. She released a slow breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding.
