CHAPTER 1

1045 Words
Present It was six on the dot when I arrived at the office building. I had some issues trying to wake up the twins so early in the morning. I felt so bad they were only two, almost three in a month. They were not used to waking up this early and because of this I had a bad time trying to get them ready this morning. Brandon texted me the instructions of the day. I had to go to the executive floor to do my cleaning. Apparently, I am in charge of this floor now because all my duties were assigned only here. I started to clean the conference rooms along with the small offices and desks. It was almost time for everyone to arrive when I was walking out of the CEO's office. I was pushing my cleaning cart when the elevator door beeped open. I look up as a reflex, only to see those green eyes that I have missed so much. Axton looked at me with a cold glare while he smirked sideways, acknowledgment in his eyes as he passed by and entered the CEO's office without even saying a word to me. I guess he was the new boss, I was glued to the floor, not giving credit to what had just happened. I felt my pulse going faster and sweat covering my forehead and back. I rushed to the bathroom, discharging the cleaning cart in the utility closet. I did not notice that I was crying or shaking until I saw my reflection in the mirror. What was he doing here in New York, when his main offices were in LA. How did he find me? Did he know about the twins? I splashed cold water in my face trying to control myself, but it was in vain. I wanted to call Brandon and tell him that I was not feeling good, but the reality was that I could not afford to take the day off. Placing my hands on the cold countertop of the sink, I looked at myself again in the mirror. “ You can do this”, I repeated to myself, giving me courage. Taking deep breaths, I managed to calm myself and continue to clean the rest of my areas. Axton “Babe, why did you have to travel all the way to New York? You could have sent Eric for the closure of the new office”. I took a deep breath for the fifth time. Tayra has been getting on my nerves lately. That is why I decided to come in person to sign the paperwork for this new branch instead of sending my right hand and brother-in-law Eric. Well, that and the fact that after four years my detective finally was able to find Anya. That little thief, I should have listened to my parents about her being a gold digger. I just could not believe all their accusations towards the woman that put my entire world upside down. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that she not only faked everything in our relationship but stole a large quantity of money, transferring it to an offshore account, and when I tried to confront her about it, she had the audacity to deny it even though her name was all over the paperwork. I could not bring myself to press charges against her, it was my fault at the end of the day. I should not have given her such power as an intern, but she made me fall like I never did in my whole thirty-four years. I can still remember those beautiful grey eyes filled with betrayal when I fired her and kicked her out of my life. “I already told you that as the owner of the company I have to close the paperwork in person”. I gave the keys of my Aston Martini to the valet in the lobby of the building. I decided that if I was going to have a branch in New York, I needed something to drive, with class. "I know honey but, I already miss you”, this woman could be exasperating. I do not know why I even married her. I guess I was really drunk. I even proposed to her with the ring that I had for Anya. I used to go drunk to work every single day after I kicked Anya out of my life and Tayra was always there to pick up all my mess. My mom mentioned that she would be the perfect candidate to marry and I guess that I felt that I needed that kind of support in my life. I know that it was an a*****e move and I think that is the number one reason why I am still with her. She really did not deserve me treating her like an escape option and that is why I always gave her anything that she wanted. “I know, I miss you too”, I forced myself to say. “Really?’ she sounded more cheerful now “I will prepare you a surprise when you come back you will...” “I have to go, OK? We will talk later” I said, cutting her off and hanging the call, I will make it up to her later. I was already stepping out of the elevator on the executive floor when I saw her. I looked straight at her beautiful grey eyes, “I found you”. I told myself, she looked as beautiful as I remembered, five feet tall with milky chocolate hair cascading to the middle of her back in a ponytail, she seemed a little skinnier than the last time that I saw her and her eyes had dark circles under them. But besides that she was still breath taking, I smirked and walked straight to my new office. My whole plan was for me to take her out of my system. I feel like I never had closure and that is why I could never stop thinking about her. I sit on my new chair and look at the clock, it is game on my little Anya, and you are at the losing end.
