“Where the hell have you two been?”
Sawyer nearly jumped on Elizabeth when they got back, holding her tightly in a hug that felt as though he had never expected to see her again.
“We just went to my place for a bit. We thought it would help if Selene saw where I used to live.”
“Did it?”
“I don’t know… we’re honestly struggling with how to get this to work. It was almost too easy for you to help me when it was something you can do yourself, but this isn’t easy for Selene to do, let alone to teach someone she doesn’t have any kind of emotional connection with.”
He was still holding her close, stroking her hair protectively with one hand. It had been snowing lightly as they walked back and the remaining snowflakes melted to water under his warm touch.
