It was only six or seven, but Elizabeth fell asleep beside Sawyer on the bed, and when she woke up he wasn’t there. She looked at the clock; almost half eleven. She was annoyed at herself for napping that long and forced herself to get up rather than staying in bed. The others stayed up into the small ours of the morning because that was in their nature, and she had always been a night owl anyway, so it felt wrong to sleep totally through the night. Sawyer and Francesca had been raised in contact with humans as they had gone to a regular school, even if they were given strict instructions not to socialise with the human children outside of school hours. Selene hadn’t ever had much interaction with humans and the role she had assumed in her pack meant that she seldom left their territory
