"You wouldn't really leave me down here, would you?"
"Keep whining, and I'll consider it."
"Well, since we'll be stuck together for a while, will you at least tell me your name?"
She snorted. "Caverne."
"Yeah, she's a firecracker." Seonnyre chuckled then winced.
Caverne had slowly pried off the muzzle a little bit here and there. Even though it had left a deep gash on her cheek, she could at least eat and drink water, not that she did. Every time she was offered something, she'd say;"Save it for the grenaryiane. She'll need it more than I do."
And that wasn't fair. She made it sound like Tirsynthe was a one year old child. They were dragons, too. Ones that needed to eat too. But that's not what they were used to. For Darkdwellers, the whelps ate first, then the juveniles, followed by young adults, females in the breeding program, and elders. Immortals, like Seonnyre and Caverne ate last, not that there was much left. Often, they went to bed hungry. Caverne's partner made good pay as a healer, and she made good pay as an assassin. They arranged once a week going out for dinner. Sometimes, Seonnyre would tag along, but mainly, she didn't want to intrude on one of few night outs, even though Argonne said it was no big deal, that neither of them minded, just sometimes Seonnyre needed her own break, backing away from it all. Often, she shut out the world, as she drifted into the little bit of sleep she'd get. She had spent most of her life, 100℅ committing to each and every one of her assignments. And for what, neglect and tension between her and the chief? Wasn't worth it, but she kept coming back to it. Like it was all she was good for, nothing else. The other females say she should settle down, start a family.
Easy for them. Bunch of brainless, naive little liars believing that's all their good for. Starting a family, settling down.
May be a good life for them, but it wasn't right for Seonnyre.
