The Escape

Lily POV “Honey, wake up. Open your eyes. Can you hear me? Go get him. Hurry.” I hear a voice calling out to me. I feel hands holding me. “Where is she?” Another voice. A small gasp. “Your majesty, she’s gone for the moment.” “Where is she?” I feel myself stand and move around. “Guards!” “No! She’s harmless.” I lose balance and fall. “Please, you need to connect. Wake up.” I hear her whisper. Lily. “Rory. What’s wrong?” You need to let go. “Let go of what?” Just let go. I start to relax and immediately feel pain all over my body. Breathe. I push through the pain. Every inch of me is numb. I can’t feel my legs, my hands, my face. I slowly open my eyes and see the room full of people. My vision is blurry but I can tell that the woman beside me is the one who made the cookies and called me a thief. Only one other person in the room isn’t wearing shiny armor and I take it that it’s either Rai or the man who knew my parents. Run. “Where? I can’t see. I can’t feel my body.” Run. I look down and I can’t see my body. All I see are two small white fluffy sticks. I shake my head and feel something soft banging against my head on both sides. “Lily?” I look up and see Stephan. He is the only one in focus. I look around and everything else is blurry. I look back at him and I see him clear as day. “Have you gone mad? You have a pet in the castle. A dangerous one at that. What were you thinking? And the name Lily?” The man besides him questions. “Seize her.” “No! Dad, wait. She’s harmless. Please, trust me.” “Trust you? You have a wild animal as a pet and you snuck in a complete stranger. How the hell do you want me to trust you?” “Just this once, Dad, please.” I can clearly see Stephan’s face switching from worry to anger to desperation. Those expressions I feel as they pass by his face. I hear a small whine. I turn to see what caused it, but it’s too blurry to see. I look back at Stephan and see him looking at me. His expressions slowly break my heart. I push myself to stand, but it feels like I have shrunk. I start to walk towards Stephan when I see his eyes shift above me and anger clearly evident on his face. He’s only make that expression if something or someone was about to harm me. I bolt towards him. I am quickly blocked by two figures. I stop and try to move around them, but more figures block my path. I look around to find an opening. There is no escape. I turn to walk back to the woman. I faintly see her being dragged by one of the figures. “What do we do?” No response. “I need you. Where are you?” Still no response. Desperation quickly heightens and panic overwhelms me. I start to walk around to find somewhere to go or hide. The figures don’t move. They just stand there blocking my path. My only salvation is hiding under the table; however, that’ll make it easier for them to get me. I’ll be trapped. Growls are heard from the direction Stephan returned from. Everyone’s attention shifts to that noise. Stephan and the man beside him are pushed aside for their protection as the growling gets louder and closer. I shift my eyes between the direction of the noise and where Stephan is. The door slams open as a large brown wolf barges in. He has his canines in view and is crouched ready to attack. Some of the guards stay close to Stephan and the others draw their weapons and point them at the wolf. Scared I look for Stephan. I can see his head above the figures. I think he’s standing on something. “Go.” He says above a whisper, but I hear him as I bolt passed the wolf and run. I run past the hallway, down the flight of stairs, and out the door which gave me access to this place. I run through the castle grounds, through the village, past the wall, and into the forest. I run until my legs give out, until there is no more air in my lungs, until my vision blurs to black. It’s not until I collapse do I notice I’m being followed and there is nothing I can do to protect myself.
