Akira's POV
Logically, it's wrong for a tutor to help her student do his homework. I should be teaching him how to do it instead. And that's the problem, Kael doesn't wanna learn.
I didn't do his homework for him. I planned to teach him how to do it. What if he gets enraged and goes all visceral on me? Then I am fried.
I took clumsy steps towards his block.
“Are you done with it?” Kael's voice made me yank a little. He was taking some stuff from a car in the driveway.
I couldn't respond. He would…
“Can't you speak?”
“Actually… Kael… I… I think it's best for us to work on the assignment together,” I choked on my words.
“You think you can order me around,” he left what he was doing and moved closer to me. My heartbeat fastened at every step he took.
“I… I… am not,”
I always find it hard to speak around him. It’s like the words in my head disappear and I am just learning about them.
“Sit, and do it now!” He ordered.
I wouldn't dare defile him. I gently sat on his porch and started doing his homework for him.
Yet… a part of my mind continued to remind me that this was totally wrong.
I put the pen down abruptly and I stood up.
“Sorry Kael… I can't do this,” I said, taking my bag and running away from him before he could say or do anything to me.
In a split second, I saw shock flash through his eyes. He didn't think I was capable of disobeying his order, I also didn't think I could do that too. I just wanted to do the right thing.
I am okay with being bullied by him, but not okay with doing his assignments for him now that I am his tutor. That would be pure deceit to his parents and that would also mean that I am taking a part in ruining his life.
If he doesn't know it now, he will never know it. If he doesn't want to be tutored by me, he would have to face the consequences.
Fear gripped onto me as I lay on my bed, recalling what I did earlier… damn! I'm grilled. Kael would end me tomorrow at school.
I forced myself to sleep, since that was the only way to stop myself from over thinking my little predicament.
>>>>>>>
I watched as the whole school cheered; everyone was in a high mood, while I felt lost amidst them. I understood nothing about what was going on.
“The Northernways are so dead,” a boy wearing a blue hat roared. The Northernways? I guess that's a hockey team. But it obviously had nothing to do with me.
I found my way amidst the crowd, heading for the library. I felt a tight grip on my arm, firm and possessive, pulling me into a corner.
Why must he always be so aggressive?
“You!” He yelled in a low voice. His blue eyes pierced through mine. Yes, me! I knew I was dead already.
“You know what? I wanted to make things a lot easier for you, but since you choose the hard way… you're in for it,” he spat.
“I… I am sorry Kael.”
“f**k your sorry!”
“I… just wanted to…”
“I got an F in the homework. I guess you're doing a good job being my tutor,” his voice laced with a little anger.
He got an F?
That's bad. I am supposed to help him get higher grades, not the other way around.
“I am sorry.”
“Stop apologizing.”
“What do I do then?”
My question made a smirk appear on his face. I don't know what is running through that head of his.
“Attend my game tonight,” he answered.
An ice hockey game? I have never been to one before.
Oh I see… That is what the ruckus was all about. The Northernways are playing against the Underwich tonight. It seems like a big game.
“I… can't… I…” I stuttered.
“Yeah… that's what I thought. Say goodbye to your tutoring job then,” he grinned.
“I will be there… But you have to let me tutor you,” I don't know exactly why I said that.
His face distorted, he was surprised. He probably did not think I would accept this cheeky offer of his. I guess his main mission was to make me reject the offer so I'd stop being his tutor.
“You bet,” he muttered, handing me a ticket before disappearing from my presence.
What did you just do Akira?
You would get yourself in trouble. My mother would most definitely not be in support of me attending a late ice hockey game, unless I sneak out.
Damn! Kael is bringing out all the bad girl parts of me.
I waited till my mum was fast asleep, she is usually very tired so it didn't take her long to fall asleep.
I stood across the bed and watched her closely. I shouldn't be doing this to my mum, but I am actually doing it for her. $5000 a month would get my college burden off her chest.
I smiled bitterly, staring at the ticket he gave me, desperation eating through me. I gently opened the door and snuck out, making sure to be very careful. Thankfully my mum wasn't a light sleeper.
I wore my sandals and covered my face with a cap. I don't want the neighbors to recognize me.
I walked fast, almost like a person attending to an emergency.
Soon enough, I got to the arena, the place was very crowded, I didn't expect so many people to be here. Light beamed everywhere and so did noises spread.
I think the game has not started yet. I gently found a place to sit. Damn! I knew nothing about ice hockey, am I just gonna watch?
No, I guess I should cheer when they are winning. How do I even know when they're winning? This was really a mistake.
The lights dimmed and music blared through the arena. The announcer introduced the starting lineup. I watched as Kael and his teammates skate through the ice, making the crowd go crazy.
The game started soon after. I always see Kael in his ice hockey gear with his teammates, but this was the first time I got to watch him play. He looked completely different from the mean Kael.
He looked like a guy driven with passion, like someone who knows exactly what he is doing.
I watched as he was fighting for the puck against a Northernway player along the board. He successfully got the puck and passed it to another player.
My mind loosened… I didn't know why, but I was rooting for Kael to score.
