Redwood, located on the boundary of Boulder City, was adjacent to Sunset Forest. It was named after the high-quality redwood on the outskirts of the forest.
That was also its only specialty.
The Sunset Forest ran through the outskirts, with huge peaks jutting out in the middle of the forest. The sprawling mountain ranges and miles and miles of forests cut off human activity, creating a dangerous wilderness.
That is the Anar mountain range, whose name came from an Elvish phonetic transliteration. Elvish was very old with complex meanings. Literally translated, it stood for the praise of the sun!
Therefore, the Anar mountain range was also called the Land of Sunshine.
A hundred years or so ago, the Sunset Forest was home to several small clans of High Elves, Avina. Until the expansion of Thun Kingdom. The high profit of capturing elf slaves attracted many adventurers to come and Boulder City began planning and building at that time because of strong demand.
The great demand for wood to build the city gave birth to Redwood.
Then, over a hundred years of history, the High Elves were nowhere to be seen in the Anar Mountains, and Boulder City, once prosperous, fell back to its depression. It existed as a border city for Thun Kingdom, symbolically guarding against the neighboring Wamel Federation. It didn't really help. The Anar Mountains were a natural barrier between the two countries.
As Boulder City declined, so did Redwood, which grew out of it. It was given a new function — a prison!
The benevolent nobles and bureaucrats in Boulder City couldn't bear to live in a city with the filthy building like prisons. About 30 years ago, after careful selection, those lords classified Redwood, which had no economic value, as a prison with a piece of paper and handed it over to the police.
It has since become the most notorious and least visited part of Anar.
Redwood was much the same as it had been 30 years ago, full of redwood huts, a dirt road running through the town and a moss-covered river crossing it in the middle.
The difference was that 30 years ago, the river was full of floating logs cut from the forest upstream. In the early morning, women would do laundry on the banks of the river, and the smoke, from the wooden houses scattered on both sides of the river, drifted in the morning mist.
But now, there are only bleary-eyed jailers who have just finished their shift and patrolling guards who looked scruffy and smelled of alcohol in the morning.
All that remained was the peace of the morning.
But today it would quickly be shattered.
"Toot —"
A shrill whistle came from Jail One, and the half-awake town was in uproar. No one knew what was going on and the guards ran around wildly.
"What happened?"
"Damn it, a prisoner has escaped from Jail One!"
"Hurry up! Send someone to tell Lord Hodge!"
"The prisoners are escaping! Can't hold them any longer! We gotta move!
"Help! Someone's hurt! Help!"
Some rushed towards Jail One while others came away from there screaming. Amid the chaotic noises and shoving, the guards who finally arrived at the gate of Jail One, saw what was happening.
That is a ridiculous battlefield!
Two big, strong men, wildly waving torches and blades, sent a group of guards screaming and fleeing. The guards freaked out and ran away.
That was called ridiculous because the two strong men were covered with long knives and spears, which at first glance looked like two gigantic porcupines walking upright!
The most frightening part was that even so, they were still alive and kicking, as they chased the guards and slashed at them and when they broke their knifes, they pulled another one off their bodies, screaming.
"Oh yeah! I love it!"
"One, two, three, three, three… Hey, don't run!"
Behind the two strong men, five men followed them out of Jail One. The five men were not as big as the leading ones, but there was one thin guy with blood dripping from his shoulder. A knife cut halfway through his shoulder, and the man seemed unaffected except for the injured shoulder.
Faced with such a scene, no normal person would dare to rush in again.
And those people were acting stranger than the two strong men.
"Wow, look at the sky, the clouds, the light..."
"Holy s**t! "
"The winding dirt paths and well-proportioned roadside huts. See those log walls? The rain and moss erosion marks perfectly restore the beauty of nature... Oh, the sun shines through the cracks in the mountains and through the forests. A light mist and dust from the dirt path paved its path with light... Oh my God, what a beautiful Tyndall effect! Each dynamic particle is burning cash!"
"Wow, killer, I didn't realize you were a beautiful literate woman!"
"The killer is crying!"
"f**k off!"
Even in the midst of battle, they were still marveling. Supported by Super Brennan and Lady Killer, Duke smiled. He could never expect players to have any sense of urgency.
He urged, "Lady Killer, check where our destination is?"
Lady Killer unrolled the map and quickly identified the location, pointing to the forest outside to the east of town. "Right there. According to the route, all we have to do is enter the forest."
"Then go!"
"Toenail, Alfred, head to the forest over there!"
Toenail and Alfred, who were having a good time, threw their torches to nearby houses and haystacks and turned around. Anyway, the fleeing guards wouldn't dare fight them.
It was only a few hundred meters to the forest, where there seemed to be a lumberyard. The mutilated edges of the forest could still be seen from a distance, but nature reclaimed them.
Behind them, flames and smoke quickly spread across the town, and the noise grew more chaotic. Some people shouted to reorganize the team, some people were at a complete loss, and more people were shouting to put out the fires.
But this group of escaped prisoners left town without being stopped.
It didn't bother the players, but Duke was at a loss for words. What had been a very difficult escape for him turned into a walk in the park with the help of the players who feared neither death nor pain.
"But anyway, I'm finally getting out of this damn place!"
Duke looked out towards the forest and smiled.
Then he heard shouts from behind him. "Lord Hodge is here!"
"Long live Lord Hodge.""
At that moment, a strong but indescribable premonition suddenly hit him. His muscles tightened, and the hairs on his back stood up uncontrollably as if he were being stalked by a beast.
