I awoke to my name being called.
“Mr. Carrillo?” A doctor said out softly infront of me
I jumped up slightly, waking Ruben who was sleeping on my lap.
I pulled him into my arms, comforting him to go back to sleep. He needed the rest, he was exhausted.
“She is out of surgery and stable, but she lost a lot of blood.” The doctor said out to me “Her heart stopped on the table, but we were able to bring her back to life. We won’t know if her brain was affected from the lack of oxygen until she wakes up.”
My heart broke hearing those words.
“But she’s stable?” I asked out worriedly
“Yes she is stable for now. Would you like to see her?”
“Yes!” I said with urgency, needing to see her
I wrapped my arms around Ruben, carrying him in my arms as I followed the doctor out of the room
