Chapter 4: Still New

It has been months since I have been working on AVS. Everything is great, the co-workers, the environment, the projects… There's only one problem, Miss A did hate me. Not that she devoted her time to torture me but when we cross she gives me a stare and roll her eyes.

Aside from that everything is good, I had my first project and it was successful. It was for a headquarters somewhere north and since then, better projects came my way. The selection of architects for the Vision 900 project is coming close. With my months of experience, I am not sure if I can qualify for it. It will be huge for my career and I really hope to have it.

"Hey, where are you guys gonna go for lunch? We're half a day today right?" Dominique asked, one of the engineers here.

"Uh, yup. I haven't decided yet but I'm craving some ribs!" Synia said, also an architect and one of my friends here.

I remembered our restaurant, so I might recommend it to them.

"I know a place that serves good ribs but it's kind of far." I suggested.

"Oh, that's fine. The company shuttle can take us there." Dominique said.

He's talking about the shuttle our company provides for us for these types of occasions that we can use once a month. It's been a while since I came home, so it might be a good idea to stay there today since it's Sunday tomorrow.

"Uhm sure, how many are we?" I asked.

Synia counted people who wanna come.

"Okay, there are 5 of us. I think we would fit in just one shuttle." Synia said, and we just nodded and agreed.

"Okidoki, I'll go to the HR later for a request." She said and took her seat again.

"How long does approval take?" I asked her.

"Once we submit the official request, it takes just a few minutes. Just have to schedule an appointment for now." She said and smiled.

My friends here are very nice. Synia, my closest. She's an architect also and she's a little loud and nosy but she's very caring. Dominique is one of the engineers that comes to our side of the office to score some chicks, jokingly. Another is Catherine, she is Miss A's assistant and she often hangs out with us. Vince and Daenerys are also close with us, they are a couple from both sides. An architect and an engineer, respectively. A couple of architects and engineers, that's the dream.

It's only 8:30 in the morning and we still have a lot to go today even if we're in a half day.I dived back to my work for the new project I am working on and continues my day.

At about 10, I had to go to the reception to schedule a request for a business meeting. I have a client coming in next week and we have to schedule a request at least 7 days before the day.

As I was talking down in the lobby, I daswith Miss V. She looked so well dressed and seemed like she just entered the building. Does she come in late or is it her schedule? Anyway, 2 people were behind her. Her assistant Meredith and one body guard who just remained at the door and stopped there.

She was wearing shades so I had no idea if she saw me. But apparently, she did. She stopped walking near then faced me.

"You're still here? I never thought you'd make it even a month but look at that."

I didn't respond and lowered my head. I gulped as I knew words were coming to attack me.

"I don't know how many times I have to say this…. The weak do not have a place here. We need skills, not heart. I am not gonna do anything kick you out of 'my' company but I wouldn't want to see you cry and shout as you get ruined in this hell." She said and walked away.

I didn't follow her with my eyes and just stayed there and took deep breaths. What does she mean hell, I mean look at this place. Not even close to hell, but…. A paradise.

I am not weak, I am gonma prove that. I have a place in this office and I am deserving of that.

Something I tell myself but for some reason I don't believe in. I keep questioning, do I really 8belong here?

Those thoughts kept me from unleashing for my first weeks here. I know that if I keep thinking about it, it wouldn't bring me anything.

After the lobby incident, I went back to the office and found no one there. I was hearing noise in the left hallway so I followed it. There I found the architects walking to the briefing room. I rushed near Synia and asked what was happening.

"Miss A will now announce the decisions for the Vision 900.." She whispered

Oh..

Nervousness swallowed me as the fear and doubt intensified. Will I be hearing my name inside that room? I…. have no idea. I seriously don't. My mind is very unstable as I questioned the parts of me I was most proud of.

We entered the room and Miss A was talking to her assistant while reading some files. We all took a seat and after a while she turned to us with a smile.

"Good morning everyone." She greeted us.

As if a giant was stomping on my heart, I stayed silent while the others replied.

"Okay, you all know our agenda for today so i'll get into it. 4 architects are chosen, and one for the head…"

She smiled and read the names.

"Ms. Dunphy, Mr. Harphee, Mr. Flint and Mr. Bailey. "

Everyone cheered. I smiled at them, specially on Synia. I am happy for her, so much. Not kidding. But still, I wanted that project so I guess it's normal for me to feel like this. We hugged and I congratulated her. I don't wanna look bitter and kill joy so I didn't let my own feelings to even cross my face.

Miss A cleared her throat that made us settle down.

"And for our head, the newest on our team…. Miss Miller!" She was happy to announce that.

I smiled again and faced to congrats Miss Mill….Miller? Did I hear that right? Miller… me?

"Say what now?" I blinked a couple of times.

"Congratulations Miss Miller, you got your Vision.." Vince joked and they laughed. I still couldn't process things. I skiled and thanked them as they congratulated me.

For the months I worked in here, things seems to go so fast I never even had the time to sink in the information.

I got it right? I got the project! This will be very huge for my career… this means promotion and a lot more opportunities. I also get to work with Synia and Vince and… oh no.

I suddenly thought about what Mr. Cadelri told me the first time I came here.

"Who ever gets hired will work alongside Miss Vyxx for the new project."
