I stood in the musty hallway, confused as I watched the blonde haired beauty go in the opposite direction. She was obviously distraught and there was a faint red mark on her right cheek. I ground my teeth together and walked after her. I sat at the end of the bar and checked my surroundings, noting a few video cameras. There was one pointing right at me, another in the back corner that pointed toward the doorway and one right above the hallway where the bathrooms are. I watched Lizzy interact with the customers and make her way to the bar, passing me as she made their drinks. She kept her eyes low and I could sense how tense she was.
I heard a door open and close, looking over my shoulder to see a tall, lanky man walking from the hallway. His hair was an unkempt mound of grease, slicked back like an imitation Elvis Presley. He wore dark denim jeans and a wrinkled dark blue dress shirt, tucked in sloppily. This guy looked like a junkie straight out of an alley with circles around his eyes and 5 o'clock shadow. We made eye contact and his face became contorted with frustration.
"I need you to leave," He growled as he closed the distance between us. I could see Lizzy stiffen as he entered the room. I stood up and squared my shoulders, looking down at him. He must have been about five foot nine and I towered over him being six foot four; height had always been an advantage for me, athletically and socially.
He visibly puffed out his chest trying to make himself look bigger than I and he failed miserably, he looked like he was holding his breathing. I laughed at looked down at him.
“What seems to be the problem?” I asked, c*****g my head to the side. “I haven’t done anything wrong. I’m a paying customer and I’ve been minding my own business.” The few customers in the tavern were now looking at us, Lizzy standing off to the side and visibly nervous.
“I asked you to leave. I don’t need to give an explanation, this is my establishment. Now get off my property.” I chuckled and threw my hands up in surrender. I turned from him, swallowed down the last of my drink before pulling out my wallet. I grabbed a $100 bill along with my business card and placed it under the glass. “See you around,” I muttered as I walked out the door, walking through the parking lot. In the very last parking lot sat my blue 2019 Ford Ranger, sparkling clean in the late afternoon sun. I pushed the unlock button on the key fob and opened the door, climbing in the driver's seat.
I was hoping that I would get a call from Lizzy. I was concerned and the way that the tavern owner interacted with me made me warier. He was obviously abusive, either an alcoholic or a heavy drug user, and quite honestly he smelled like death. My skin is hot with pent up anger and I can hear a deep growl in the back of my head.
Need mate. You should have fought for her. He is hurting her. You are weak. Axyl, my wolf, spoke with me telepathically and continued a low growl in the back of my head. I could feel the heat radiating over my skin and I sighed. He wanted out, but more accurately he wanted to run back to the tavern and rip the head clean off that assholes shoulders.
I drove a little further before pulling down a dirt road, the pavement disappearing in the review as the trees engulfed it. I rolled down my windows and took a deep breath of fresh air into my lungs, sighing in relief. The tires threw up clouds of dust and they followed me as I entered a large clearing, coming to a stop next to a large blue pond. I turned off the engine and stepped out of the truck, closing and locking the door behind me. My eyes scanned the area to check for any movement. When I was satisfied there was no one in the area, I began to remove my clothes and started the change.
The change doesn't hurt like the old stories claim it does. It's more of a radiating warmth, starting at the core and spreading through the limbs. It is truly an exhilarating feeling and I feel closer to my wolf when he changes and runs. When the change is finished, my coat is long and smokey grey with large, amber eyes. My wolf's tongue lolls out with a grin as he crouches down, ready to spring forward and take off into the trees.
Seeing through my wolfs eyes is an amazing perspective, the blur of the trees and the simplicity in the colors. Wolves only see reds and yellows when it comes to color. Looking through the eyes of a wolf and seeing what the world looks like to them is a great learning opportunity. The lack of variance on the color spectrum is mind-opening, to say the least.
As my wolf raced through the forest, I could feel his strength awakening inside of me. A hot, pulsating fire in my veins and I've never felt anything better. I let my mind wander as my paws thud against the forest floor, bounding over trees and through soft green grasses. My wolf took control and I let my thoughts drift away, the silence cutting through me like a knife. Axyl is abnormally quiet today, especially after the encounter with Lizzy's boss. It makes me a little nervous, especially when the bastard has the nerve to put his hands on a woman. I could hear my wolf growling once again, Isomethin has really pissed him off this time.
