CHAPTER TWO

Kiara hardly remembered how she got home. Her hands shaking as she fumbled with her keys as she was opening her apartment door. Kael's words echoed in her ears. "You're Kitara's blood, you're mine by prophecy." Her hands trembled as she turned on the lights. She rushed to the bathroom sink to splash her face with cold water. Upon looking at the mirror, her reflection stared back at her, pale and wide-eyed. For a moment, she thought she saw silver glow in her eyes again. She blinked hard and it vanished. "This isn't real." She whispered. "It can't be real." She could still feel his touch on her wrist. The heat of his golden eyes locked into hers. No, she wouldn't believe it. --- Keal Draven was not a patient man. He stood on the balcony of his penthouse. His wolf prowling inside him. He had taken down a rival pack leader earlier that evening with a single brutal strike. His company had closed another billion-dollar deal, and yet none of it mattered. Because of her. Kiara. He has scented her, touched her, seen her eyes flicker silver. There was no doubt, she was kitara's blood. The one promised to him by the curse. His mind was crowded with her thoughts. His Beta, Marcus, entered quietly. Sensing the Alpha's restlessness, "You found her?" He asked. Kael's eyes turned molten glow. "She is mine." Marcus hesitated. "If the prophecy is true, she may not tame you....she might destroy you." Kael smirked. "Then let her try. She cannot run from what binds us." Marcus lowered his gaze, knowing better than to argue. Kael's voice dropped to a vow, "she will fight. She will resist. But she will yield. They always do." --- Kiara dreamt of fire. She was running through a forest, drenched in blood moonlight. She stumbled and when she looked back, golden eyes glowed in the darkness. "Mine." The voice growled. She jolted awake, gasping. Sweats soaked her sheet. Her alarm clock reads 3:00 am. The lights in her room flickered. "No," she whispered, clutching the sheets to her body. "Not again." She whispered fearfully. She tried to calm herself down. She felt watched, though the room was empty. Her phone buzzed on the night stand. She reached for it with shaking hands. Unknown caller: you can't run from me, little moon. I'll always find you. Her blood stilled like ice. She dropped the phone. Her heart racing. "How did he have her number?" She scrambled from bed, pulling the curtains shut. Though she knew it wouldn't stop him. Nothing could. --- The next day at the university, Kiara tried to lose herself in work. She stacked books, filed manuscripts. Anything to keep her hands busy and her thoughts away from him. But she couldn't ignore the weight pressing on her chest. "Hello, little moon." Her body froze. The books slipped from her hands to the floor. Slowly, she turned. Kael Draven stood at the edge of the archive hall. Kiara's voice was a whisper. " How did you find me?" He smiled faintly, stepping closer. "You've already forgotten who I am? Wolves can track their mates anywhere." Her pulse quickened. "I am not your mate. Please let me be." Kael tilted his head, his gaze staring deeply into her chest. "Your heart disagrees." "I don't care." She snapped, stepping back. "Please stay away from me. I beg of you." He moved closer, his voice dropping, intimate. "The bond is not a choice. You can deny me. You can hate me. But you cannot break it." The lights flickered violently casting shadows across the manuscripts. Kiara gasped as a silver glow briefly lit her finger tips. Kiara jerked back, fear flashing in her eyes. She turned and ran, leaving behind the books scattered across the floor. Kael watched her go, his jaw tightening and his voice rumbling low. "Run, little moon. For every step you take make me more hungrier. You are mine forever." Later that evening, kiara sat in her apartment, trembling as she lit every candle she could get. The shadows didn't feel safe anymore. A knock sounded at her door. She froze. Then a woman's voice whispered violently. "Kiara, please open up." Cautiously, she opened the door. A tall woman with silver hair and piercing blue eyes stood there cloaked in dark robes. She does not look like someone from this world. "Who are you?" Kiara asked. The woman stepped inside, closing the door quickly. "There isn't much time. My name is Lyra and I serve the moon goddess. I am here to warn you." Kiara's heart pounded. "Warn me? About what please?" Lyra's eyes softened with pity. "You're Kitara's blood. The curse that began centuries ago now rests in you. The Alpha has found you." Kiara shook her head backing away. "No, I don't want any of these. I just want a normal life like every other normal girl out there." Lyra's voice was firm. "Normal was never meant for you. The Alpha's bloodline is bound to yours. He will not stop until he claims you." Tears burned Kiara's eyes. "Then what am I supposed to do? All these are too much for me to bear." Lyra placed a hand on her shoulder. "You must learn to awaken your powers. Only then, can you decide if you will tame him or destroy him. ---- At kael's penthouse, he stood in his private training hall. His fists bloodied from the punching bag he had torn apart. But his mind was not on his training. His mind was crowded with her. Her scent. Her defiant. Her glow. Marcus entered quietly. "You should be careful. She is unlike other girls. She carries Kitara's powers." Kael turned, his eyes blazing gold. "Exactly, that is why she is mine. Mine to tame." Marcus frowned. "And if she destroys you before you could tame her?" Kael smirked, baring his fangs. "Then she will destroy me in my bed, riding my d**k aggressively, moaning out my name."
