CHAPTER #9 “INTENTIONS” EVAN’S POV: I opened the door to our room, knowing that Meredith would be rendered unconscious for a while. I needn’t worry about her for the time being, but I did need to find out why these vampires were so hell bent on getting my chosen mate here. I did have a healthy fear of what she was capable of, I had witnessed some of it while in the forest, and even just now. Like her cousin, she packed a whopper of a punch. Her magic was powerful, but that couldn’t be the only reason for all of this. There were plenty of powerful witches littered within the world. I proceeded to the study we had recently been vacated from. I didn’t understand the ways of vampires much, not that I cared, overall, hated them as a species. It was no wonder that my father was able to get along with them as well as he did. They were all snakes. Dad was more closly matched personality wise to one of these bloodsuckers than a wolf. The hallway was dark and dreary even though it was morning. I could hear the howling wind outside despite the thick walls of this medieval fortress. I felt the hair stand up on the back of my neck, everything about this place set me on edge. I knocked on the study door and carefully opened it just enough to peer within the room. Montague and Ralph were calmly chatting amongst themselves near the large fireplace. “Come in Evan.” I heard Montague’s voice echo, it caused me to pause, he spoke to me more like a child than an Alpha. I heard my wolf growl; he didn’t like anything about this plan. I entered and took a seat across from both men, crossing my leg over my thigh casually. “So, you have come for more information? You want to understand our interest in your mate.” Montague shrugged nonchalantly, appearing almost annoyed that he needed to explain himself. I nodded, twitching my characteristic blonde handlebar mustache and having no intention of staying her longer than necessary if I didn’t like his intentions. Montague smiled wickedly and leaned back in his chair, resting his hands in his lap. “It is fortunate for us that you were able to find and secure Meredith. I don’t think your little wolfy brain realizes the magnitude of this.” I frowned and shifted in my seat. I was becoming horribly aware that I was not going to like whatever they had instore for us. “Why is that?” I growled, not amused by the intrigue they had with my mate. Montague and Ralph both smiled wickedly, an inside joke perhaps? I was beginning to feel that I should have just stayed in the states, taken my chances with the Alpha King. “Meredith is a descendant of a long line of prominent witches. Witches with power no other being has possessed. They are suggested to have the power of both light and darkness, which is incredibly rare. We know Aoibhe, Meredith’s grandmother possesses both, we are unsure of Meredith. Their linage comes from the Moon Goddess. It’s said a daughter of Selene enticed the all-powerful Merlin. It was rumored that he had a daughter in secret named Lailoken, and Aoibhe is a direct descendant of her through her mother’s line.” Montague leaned back and smiled, clasping his hands behind his head. “Can you imagine the power those women possess? A keeper of both the light and the dark, a descendant of the Moon Goddess herself and the all-powerful Merlin! It’s any supernatural’s dream, which is why Aiobhe was kidnapped and r***d by Lycan, resulting in Bridgette’s mother Katherine, the Lycan Queen, and Katherine is Meredith’s aunt. So, your pretty petite mona mee is related to Merlin, the Moon Goddess, and by marriage, the Alpha King. What a prize, the only better one was her cousin Bridgette.” I sighed when I thought of the exquisite redhead, I had had her as well, however was forced to abandon her when things got too hot for me. “I had her in my possession for a couple of months before the Alpha King came and stirred everything up. The problem was, she was already marked and mated to a neighboring Alpha, Lucca Mariano. And expecting a pup. We attempted to remove her mark, but she ended up killing an entire coven of witches and my own father. After a bit, I realized I was getting nowhere with her, and because she had already been marked, the only thing I would have been able to do was use her as a breeder.” I had a hint of remorse, Bridgette was radiant, voluptuous, and powerful, however I had never been able to harness that power or take her as my own. Montague nodded and took out a cigar and lit it, then waved a hand to his butler requesting beverages. “The red master?” Andre asked intently. Even the servant here caused my skin to tingle. Everything was unnatural and morbidly creepy. Montague nodded, faced me once again and continued. “Meredith is the key. I can compel her to forget her past, to accept you as her mate. She will only know us and will become loyal. We will need to show her love and kindness and manipulate her mind so that she will do our bidding. You can breed her, create your hybrid, and with her power, we can overtake all forms of the supernatural world and build an army that will take the Alpha King down, building an empire with you, Ralph, and I at the helm.” A triumphant smile graced the vampire’s face causing me unease again. His plot appeared more sinister when he spoke aloud, giving me shivers, there was something he was not telling me, I could sense it. “So, what is the next step?” I asked, exhaling a breath I had not even realized I had been holding, not exactly sure how we began. Montague smiled once more, and I heard a chuckle come from Ralph. “I will come to your room tonight when she begins to come out of sedation. I need her mildly coherent for a compel to take effect, yet not alert enough to kill one of us.” He took a long draw of his cigar and sat it down into the crystal ashtray beside his chair, then accepted a glass of burgundy from Andre. Andre offered me one as well, and I shook my head. I needed to keep all my wits about me here, for my own salvation. Everything just felt wrong now that I was here, and I felt Ronan growl in my mind. I pursed my lips, twitching my mustache and nodded with compliance. “Alright then. Seems like we have a plan. If ya’ll don’t mind, I am gonna go and get some shut eye. I didn’t sleep well on the plane over.” I said, feeling the effects of the jetlag, not to mention my anxiety was up. Something was amiss and I needed to be very prudent to make sure I didn’t fall into the vampire’s den. I noticed some hesitation as I stood, Ralph appeared displeased that I wanted to depart, and although Montague frowned at me, he finally nodded with understanding. “Get some rest. Our new order begins tonight.” The frown turned to a pleased smirk, and I nodded, pleased that the vampires accepted my excuse to depart. I needed to keep my demeanor bland, the last thing I wanted to do was give Montague any inkling to kill me or Meredith. I left the study quickly so to return to Meredith. I was indeed exhausted after the past 48 hours of little to no sleep and a little rest curled up to my chosen mate should be exactly what I needed so I could finally sleep. MONTAGUE’S POV: I couldn’t help but smile brightly as I watched the werewolf leave my study. What luck it had been to befriend this young man’s father over twenty years ago while we had both been visiting Paris. Something had told me then that these wolves were not your average mutt species and had the drive and perhaps insanity to do something special. Ordinarily, I hated werewolves; they were impulsive, they smelled terrible, and had horrific manners, and indeed, Evan was impulsive, had a doggy odor to me and less than gentile manners. However, I could look past the foul smell, impulsive behavior, and his rogue manners, choking it up that he was born a wolf, and an America, being feral was expected. What drew me in was his ambition, he and his father’s drive to achieve what seemed to be impossible and were reckless and willing to gamble everything for their plans. Most people, especially the supernatural were careful to weigh the pros and cons before going forth with such insanity as, say, kidnapping the Alpha King’s daughter. His father was certifiably insane, completely cruel, and utterly deranged. We had met at council gathering, and I had immediately been drawn to the old man. It was unfortunate that he had been killed. I almost felt compelled to kill the one responsible, and in time, I felt I would have my chance to make a meal of her. “Evan seems a little more reserved now that he was here. Do you think bringing this wolf into our plans was wise?” Ralph asked me, his eyes sparkling black, and I realized his hesitancy. I took a long sip of my burgundy before I answered him. “He needs to be apprised of some, but certainly not all. Evan is a lost soul; I can feel it. His wolf is looking for the true mate that he lost and keeps taking females looking to replace the original. Evan’s cruelty and insanity stems from loosing his original mate, and the influence of his father. Evan is not certifiably mad like his father was, I can sense the difference between them.” I picked up my cigar once more and rolled it between my fingers. I chuckled as I remembered Oliver’s wolf taking a healthy bite out of a girl, we had taken one night from the bar. He was indeed a true sadist, and although his son was mentally ill, he wasn’t mad to the core like his father had been. “I will never forget the day I met Oliver. It was at a council meeting in Paris, where he had attempted to get on the international board of supernatural’s. Of course, he was denied as anyone could tell he was a sick f**k, and yet that was what drew me to him. Well anyway, later that evening he and I went for a city stroll and ran into this mon petite Cherie, well we were both starving, so we took her into the back alley where I drank my fill, then Oliver shifted into his wolf after having his way with her near corpse, and as she began to come around, he literally ate her, crotch first. He loved to hear them scream. He was the most brutal and disturbed supernatural I had ever met. He made my skin crawl.” “That’s some Hannibal Lecture shit.” Ralph exclaimed, even as a Dhampir, I could see his face flushing green. I laughed at my young friend, he was a reckless mobster, yet had still not turned that corner of what Oliver and I were, although honestly few had. “Yes, a wonderful memory. However, the son is not that of his father. I was hoping, but alas, I feel disappointed. He will protect that girl, so us getting a piece of the action will be nil. Originally, I had wanted to share her, but I know wolfy boy will never go for that.” Ralph raised his eyebrows at me and took a sip of his wine. “Why would you want to share a witch with a mutt? Why would you want either? If you want a snack, I can go and get ya a girl in the village.” Ralph mentioned, tossing his thumb over his shoulder with his animated way of talking. “Just down the road, whole pond full of fishes.” I smiled, my young colleague just didn’t understand where I was going with all this. “I don’t want to feed on her, although maybe a taste, not sure, but I want to breed her. I wanted to produce the most powerful Dhampir the world has ever seen. The power of light and dark, with all the abilities and senses of a vampire. My son would be able to rule the world. But alas, with Evan in the mix, I will have to wait a few years and pray they produce a daughter, a daughter I can imprint on, control, and own.” “A werewolf, vampire, witch hybrid? Is that even possible?” The shocked look in Ralph’s face amused me. He, like his father, often lacked vision. “I would prefer to simply have a vampire, witch coupling of course, nevertheless, a trifecta hybrid does wet the appetite does it now? It would be the most powerful being to ever be born. The offspring of an ancient vampire and the direct descendant of the Wizard Merlin, Selene with just a dash of wolf.” I smacked my lips together and finished my glass of wine in a single gulp, something I rarely did. “I can’t imagine such a being.” Ralph returned; however, I could sense he was intrigued with my vision. “Indeed, such a being would be the greatest species the world has ever known. And although I will have a difficult time keeping my hands off her, her daughter… ah, her daughter will be all mine, and Ralph, I am a very patient vampire.” Ralph looked at me in sheer awe. The magnitude of this plan would have never been a plausible feat had it not been for Evan. His ambition, and the sheer stupid luck that Meredith had finally departed from the safety net of the Alpha King’s pack grounds and his protection was a stroke of good fortune for us. In due time I was going to be able to create an empire of extraordinary supernatural beings, beings the world had never seen prior, that would overcome the Alpha King, take his throne and end his legacy, making me and my offspring the most powerful beings on earth.
