George has been watching the two women sleep for what felt like an hour, when Celine starts twitching in her sleep. Her brow furrows, and sweat starts to bead on her forehead. Maggie, on the other hand, goes pale, and stays very still in her sleep. But George isn’t really watching Maggie. He gets a cool damp cloth to wipe Celine’s forehead, but he’s careful not to touch her skin, having been warned not to. It looks like she’s in pain, and it wrenches at his heart. This continues for another hour as he paces the room, then dabs at her forehead, only to return to pacing and so on. Then she stills and tears start to emerge.
