Celine really doesn’t want Nate to hate her, or to misunderstand what she was trying to say. Not after he’d just gotten her out of the basement for the first time in eleven years apparently. She sighs and tries again more slowly,
“There are words that I can’t say, words that would help you to understand what’s going on. But if I use them, I will feel extreme pain. After years of little else, I would choose to avoid more if I can.” She glances at Nate and sees his expression of shock and confusion. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath to steady himself, and comes to sit back down. Fi then re-enters the house, carrying a first-aid kit and a bundle of fabric.
“Hey, I found some clothes I’d left in the back of the car that should fit you, so you can change out of that.” She indicates Celi
