Celine wakes long after the sun had risen. George is asleep on the chair where she’d seen him last. She takes a moment, lying still to study the man. Someone had been in after he’d fallen asleep as there’s a blanket over him that she hadn’t seen in the room before she’d gone to sleep. His ash-brown hair has flopped in front of his face, his pale skin almost shines in the light from the window beside him. He has a strong nose, and his full lips are pressed together.
She carefully shifts her weight to get out of bed, trying not to wake him. She walks quietly to the bathroom, closing the door and doing what she needs to. She flushes the toilet and washes her hands. She removes the bandages to inspect the skin beneath; it looked good, not fully healed, but instead of the deep, seeping burns
