Something had changed. One moment, Valen had been looking at me, bored and unaffected. Then, after I’d given my conditions for the contract, he’d pulled his lips back for just a moment, looking away with eyes shut tight as though I’d slapped him.
Now, the aura around him had turned into something dangerous and beastly. The air suddenly felt heavy and thick, as though I was breathing in hot jungle air. Ash whimpered inside of me, naturally submitting to the powerful presence, but it wasn’t in fear; it was in excitement.
